Wetting of Surface Grafted Hydrophilic‐b‐Hydrophobic Block Copolymer Brushes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The wetting properties of surface grafted diblock copolymer brushes are influenced by the thickness of the hydrophilic bottom block and the hydrophobic top block. The surface adapts in presence of water and the contact angles of the bottom block shine through. Abstract The wetting of diblock copolymer brushes by water is studied.

A Decision Method for Elementary Stream Calculus [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
The main result is a doubly exponential decision procedure for the first-order equality theory of streams with both arithmetic and control-oriented stream operations. This stream logic is expressive for elementary problems of stream calculus.

A Stream of Alluvium [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1899
IN a private letter, Captain Roberts, Medical Officer at Gilgit, sends me the following information, which may interest some of your readers. He says that near Owir, which is near Drasan in the Turikho valley of Chitral, there is a curious object which he describes as a “glacier of alluvium.” It fills the bed of a nullah which comes down from a ridge ...

Sonochemical Functionalization of Glass

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A new method for functionalizing glass using ultrasonication of aryl diazonium salts. Aryl radicals generated by ultrasounds react with glass, forming a stable, covalently bonded organic film. The functionalized glass adheres microorganisms such as microalgae, fungi, and bacteria, suggesting potential applications in enzyme production, filtration ...

Streams of Bereavement [PDF]

open access: yesQualitative Inquiry, 2012
This article offers “streams of bereavement” narratives across time. The author seeks to present a multilayered voiced account through vignettes and poems about the loss of her father who died 20 years ago. This aims to address the complex and traumatizing nature of living with grief and the shifting and multifaceted ways a young bereaved daughter ...

Superlubricious Surfaces Through Surface Attached Hydrogels Obtained by C,H‐insertion Crosslinking

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Taking synovial joints as a source of inspiration, the friction properties of surfaces covered with 1d‐swelling polyelectrolyte hydrogels in combination with a shear‐thinning aqueous lubricant are studied. Such systems obtained by C,H insertion crosslinking show superlubricious behavior, even surpassing the friction values reported for the natural ...

High‐Fidelity Directed Self‐Assembly Using Higher‐χ Polystyrene‐Block‐Poly(Methyl Methacrylate) Derivatives for Dislocation‐Free Sub‐10 nm Features

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The relationship between primary polymer structure and pattern quality in the directed self‐assembly of chemically modified polystyrene‐block‐poly(methyl methacrylate) derivatives is explored. The perpendicular lamellae are aligned, with a periodicity below 20 nm. No parallel orientations or dislocations form, and line patterns are well defined over an
