Interpretable Machine Learning Framework for Nb─Si Based Alloy Design with Enhanced Fracture Toughness

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An interpretable machine learning framework integrating SHAP and PDP analysis identifies critical design descriptors from 139 physicochemical features for Nb─Si alloys. The framework achieves <7% prediction error and guides the discovery of Nb38.5Ti38.5Si3Zr18V2 alloy with 22.791 MPa·m1/2 fracture toughness, breaking the 20 MPa·m1/2 barrier.

Enhanced strength-ductility synergy in an Al–Cu alloy via Cd-induced hybrid θ″+θ′ precipitation [PDF]

open access: yes
In this work, trace Cd addition (∼0.2 wt%) was exploited in Al–Cu alloys to improve the mechanical properties by introducing the hybrid θ″+θ′ precipitates, as governed by the solid-solution temperature T.

Overcoming plasticity reduction in a severely deformed nano-grained metastable alloy

open access: yesMaterials Research Letters
Most bulk metallic materials reveal an increased strength but a loss of ductility after cold deformation, a phenomenon known as the strength–ductility trade-off.

Thermally Processable, Transparent, Mechanically Tunable and Robust Bioplastics From Wastepaper

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Unlike conventional inefficient or low‐value wastepaper recycling, a directional transformation strategy is employed to convert whole wastepaper into intact bioplastics with tunable mechanical properties in our work. These bioplastics can be processed into flexible bags or rigid containers and exhibit high transparency, water resistance, repairability,

Enhancing the strength-ductility synergy in hot-forged Fe50Mn30Co10Cr10 high entropy alloy (HEA) through carbon additions [PDF]

open access: yes
In this work, we systematically investigated the effect of carbon additions on the microstructure and room temperature mechanical properties of hot-forged Fe50Mn30Co10Cr10 HEA. The different carbon contents were introduced to Fe50-xMn30Co10Cr10Cx (x = 1,

Systematic analysis of tensile properties of the TiVNbMoCr high entropy alloys in terms of the physical parameters

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
Optimizing elemental proportions is a potential pathway to enhance strength-ductility synergy of non-equimolar high entropy alloys (HEAs). This study designed a series of BCC-structured TiVNbMoCr alloys with different elemental proportions, and ...

Unlocking Strength‐Toughness Dilemma in High‐Entropy Borides by Intragranular Microstructural Reconstruction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An extreme non‐equilibrium process combining heavy direct current sintering and TiSi2 addition is used to construct intragranular energy dissipation units within high‐entropy boride ceramics to overcome the strength‐toughness trade‐off. The resulting ceramic demonstrates attractive mechanical properties with a flexural strength of 887 MPa and a ...

Large Language Model‐Informed Dual‐Track AI Framework for the Synergistic Design of Crack‐Free and High‐Strength Superalloys

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This paper illustrates a knowledge‐augmented dual‐track AI framework for advanced superalloy design. First, Large Language Models translate metallurgical heuristics into explicit rules to rapidly prune a vast compositional search space. Subsequently, LLM‐distilled priors safely guide a reinforcement learning agent during autonomous process optimization,
