Stretching the Printability Metric in Direct‐Ink Writing with Highly Extensible Yield‐Stress Fluids

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces “drawability” as a new metric for assessing printability in direct‐ink writing, focusing on gap‐spanning performance and speed robustness. By designing yield‐stress fluids with high extensibility, we demonstrate that extensional strain‐to‐break significantly enhances printability.

Optimizing strength-ductility synergy of the solid-solution Ti50–ZrVNbCr MEAs via coordinately adjusting VEC and lattice constant

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
In this study, a series of Ti50–ZrVNbCr alloys were designed under with the constant atomic radius mismatch. It was suggested that valence electron concentration (VEC) and lattice constant, which evolve oppositely in the series of the Ti50–ZrVNbCr alloys,

Semiconducting Polymers Post‐Functionalized With Ureido‐Pyrimidinone for Robust Stretchable Transistors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The design of intrinsically robust stretchable semiconducting polymers was achieved through OTBS‐mediated post‐functionalization of PDPP2T side chains with UPy units, generating dual hydrogen‐bonding motifs comprising weaker urethane linkages and strong quadruple UPy interactions along the long alkyl side chain, which is crucial for achieving desirable

Ductilizing Al-Mn strips via gradient texture

open access: yesMaterials Research Letters, 2023
Improved strength-ductility synergy is not uncommon among metallic materials with gradient structures of grains and twins. In this work, we report that the texture gradient innately created in Al-Mn strips by twin-roll casting is also capable of ...

Tannic Acid‐Modified Cellulose Nanofiber Reinforced Polymerizable Eutectogels for High‐Performance Stretchable Strain Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A polymerizable deep eutectic solvent is reinforced with tannic acid‐modified cellulose nanofibers to construct a hierarchical dynamic eutectogel network. Synergistic covalent and reversible interactions impart ultrahigh stretchability, high ionic conductivity, broad temperature tolerance, self‐healing, and strong adhesion, enabling robust wearable ...

Achieving high strength-ductility synergy in a Mg97Y1Zn1Ho1 alloy via a nano-spaced long-period stacking-ordered phase [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
Achieving high strength in Mg alloys is usually accompanied by ductility loss. Here, a novel Mg97Y1Zn1Ho1 at.% alloy with a yield strength of 403 MPa and an elongation of 10% is developed.

Achieving the strength and ductility synergy in the AlN/ZK60 Mg matrix composite with the bimodal structure

open access: yesJournal of Magnesium and Alloys
Overcoming the strength and ductility trade-off is conducive to expanding the application prospects of the Mg matrix composites. A new approach of using the master alloy containing particulate reinforcements to achieve the strength and ductility synergy ...

Wood‐Derived Nanocellulose‐Biocarbon Fresnel‐Zone Plate Lenses for Sub‐THz Frequency Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Wood‐derived nanocellulose and lignin‐based biocarbon were combined to fabricate fully bio‐based Fresnel zone plate (FZP) lenses for sub‐terahertz frequencies. These sustainable FZP lenses exhibit low dielectric loss and high directivity, achieving performance comparable to that of metallic references, and remain functional under environmental stress ...

Superior strength-ductility synergy of an oxide-dispersion strengthened CoCrNi-based multi-principal element alloy [PDF]

open access: yes
CoCrNi-based multi-principal element alloys (MPEAs) often lack strength at elevated temperatures. Here, to overcome this deficiency, a novel oxide-dispersion strengthening (ODS) CoCrNi-based MPEA was designed by incorporating nano-scale yttria via LPBF ...
