Primer: strengths and weaknesses of meta-analysis

Nature Clinical Practice Rheumatology, 2008
Properly conducted meta-analyses that are based on systematic reviews of the literature allow the conclusive synthesis of accumulating scientific evidence. Systematic reviews, with or without meta-analyses, offer a more objective appraisal of the available evidence compared with traditional narrative reviews.

Multivariate Analysis in the Maximum Strength Performance

International Journal of Sports Medicine, 2012
This study performed an exploratory analysis of the anthropometrical and morphological muscle variables related to the one-repetition maximum (1RM) performance. In addition, the capacity of these variables to predict the force production was analyzed.

Simplified Strength Analysis of Jack-Ups

Southeast Asia Show, 1984
ABSTRACT New challenges are posed on structural analysis of jack-ups when moving to deeper water, more harsh environment and application high tensile steel. Dynamic behaviour becomes more prevailing and fatigue due to wave loads may become governing.

Ultimate Strength Analysis of Stub Girders

Journal of Structural Engineering, 1995
This paper is on the determination of the ultimate load-carrying capacity of stub girders. Two different methods are presented for this purpose. In the first method, the stub girder is modeled as a vierendeel truss girder. Based on an assumed collapse mechanism, shear force distribution between the top and bottom chords proportioned according to the ...

Strength Analysis of High Strength Steel Hydraulic Support

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2012
Based on the importance and complex working environment of hydraulic support, welding residual stress (WRS) measurement to main components were carried out respectively by X-ray diffraction and the measured data were further analyzed theoretically.

A Cluster Analysis of Static Strength Tests

Research Quarterly. American Association for Health, Physical Education and Recreation, 1968
Abstract Ages, heights, weights, and 24 static (cable tensiometer) strength test scores were obtained from 81 college men enrolled in service course classes at the University of Oregon during the 1963–64 academic year. Of the 276 intercorrelations between strength scores, 215 were significant (p > .01; r ≥ .285).

Laminate Strength Analysis

1991
In Chapter 5 we looked at the stiffness aspects of various laminate configurations. We went through the computational procedures for calculating the laminate stiffnesses and equivalent elastic constants. We also noted the stiffness characteristics of commonly used laminate configurations.

Strength Analysis of Adhesively Bonded Repairs

2003
The use of fibre reinforced plastics has grown in recent years in aerospace, automotive and marine structures. The maintenance and repair of these structures are always of main concern to the end-users as well as the manufactures. On an aircraft, the need to repair a component can arise from physical damage due to accidental impact, bird strike ...

An Experimental Analysis of Strength and Ductility of High-Strength Fasteners

Engineering Journal, 2010
A total of 1,533 structural bolts, consisting of four different bolt grades and six different diameters, up to 5 in. in length, were tested in direct tension and shear with the threads excluded and not excluded from the shear plane. Thread lengths, tensile and shear strength, and elongation at failure were measured.

Determining negation scope and strength in sentiment analysis

2011 IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics, 2011
A key element for decision makers to track is their stakeholders' sentiment. Recent developments show a tendency of including various aspects other than word frequencies in automated sentiment analysis approaches. One of these aspects is negation, which can be accounted for in various ways.
