A minimal cellulosome‐like system in Cellulosilyticum lentocellum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cellulose‐degrading bacteria typically use cellulosomes, large multi‐enzyme complexes on a scaffold protein. In Cellulosilyticum lentocellum, we characterise a far smaller arrangement, a single scaffold bound to one cellulase through a single cohesin‐dockerin interaction.

Study of the damage characteristics and corrosion mechanism of tunnel lining in a sulfate environment

open access: yesFrontiers in Materials
Sulfate corrosion is one of the main causes of tunnel lining deterioration. An accurate understanding of the damage characteristics and corrosion mechanism of sulfate-corroded tunnels is the basis for the anti-corrosion design and damage control of the ...

RNA Sequencing Resolves Cryptic Pathogenic Variants in Mitochondrial Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Mitochondrial diseases are the most common inherited metabolic disorders, characterized by pronounced clinical and genetic heterogeneity that complicates molecular diagnosis. Although DNA‐based sequencing approaches have become standard in genetic testing, up to half of patients remain without a definitive diagnosis.

Mechanical degradation and microcrack evolution of weathered basalt under freeze–thaw cycles

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science
Freeze-thaw cycles (FTCs) play an important role in the degradation of rock masses and the stability of slopes in cold, high-altitude regions. However, the degradation behaviour of basalt with different weathering degrees under freeze-thaw (F-T ...

Neurochemical Endpoints to Inform Early‐Stage Trials of Spinocerebellar Ataxia 2 and 3 in a Multisite Setting

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Neurochemical levels measured by brain MR spectroscopy (MRS) have been proposed as endpoints for clinical trials in early‐stage spinocerebellar ataxia (SCA) trials. We tested their trial‐readiness by quantifying neurochemicals in three affected brain regions in early‐stage cohorts of SCA2 and SCA3, examining their reproducibility in ...

Thalamo‐Lesional Connectivity Signatures of Bilateral Tonic–Clonic Seizures in Focal Cortical Dysplasia‐Related Epilepsy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives Focal cortical dysplasia (FCD) is the most common etiology of drug‐resistant epilepsy in children. Focal to bilateral tonic–clonic seizures (FBTCS) mark a high risk of drug‐resistant epilepsy and involve thalamocortical circuitry in their generation and propagation.

Degradation of basalt FRP bars in alkaline environment

open access: yesScience and Engineering of Composite Materials, 2015
This paper investigates the degradation of basalt fiber reinforced polymer (BFRP) bars used for concrete construction in an alkaline environment. The relationships between tensile strength, elastic modulus, shear strength and moisture absorption rate ...

Effect of direct supervision of a strength coach on measures of muscular strength and power in young rugby league players [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
The purpose of the present study was to examine the influence of direct supervision on muscular strength, power, and running speed during 12 weeks of resistance training in young rugby league players. Two matched groups of young (16.7 ± 1.1 years [mean ±

Validation of a Cellular Imaging‐Based Method as a Potential Biomarker for SPG4 Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia (HSP) comprises a group of rare genetic diseases characterized by length‐dependent axonal degeneration of the corticospinal tracts and dorsal columns, whose main clinical feature is spastic gait. Pathogenic variants in the SPG4 gene cause Spastic Paraplegia Type 4 (SPG4‐HSP), the most common form of HSP.

The Comprehensive Live Cell‐Based Cytotoxicity Assay for Monitoring Disease Activity and Guiding Rescue Therapy in Acute Attacks of NMOSD

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) is a devastating neurological disease that lacks serological biomarkers that can accurately reflect disease activity. We established a live cell‐based assay (LCBA) using serum with endogenous complement to quantify the overall cytotoxicity, offering a novel functional tool for monitoring
