Curcumin Internalization in Streptococcus mutans Biofilms: A Confocal Microscopy Analysis

open access: yesJournal of Biophotonics, EarlyView.
Streptococcus mutans are harmful bacteria to oral health, exhibiting high resistance in their biofilm form. This study evaluated, through Confocal Microscopy, curcumin extracted from Curcuma longa as a photosensitizer in photodynamic inactivation (PDI), monitoring its internalization time and activity.

Microbiological Characteristics of Pathogens Isolated From Blood Cultures of Patients With Acute Cholangitis: Insights From Patients With Biliary‐Enteric Anastomosis

open access: yesJournal of Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background We aimed to investigate the microbiological characteristics of pathogens isolated from blood cultures (BCs) of patients with acute cholangitis (AC) after biliary‐enteric anastomosis and biliary intervention (BI). Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on 366 patients with AC and bacteremia between 2015 and 2024 at Hiroshima ...

Diagnosis and management of reactive infectious mucocutaneous eruption

open access: yesJournal of Hospital Medicine, EarlyView.
Abstract Medicine's clinical understanding of reactive infectious mucocutaneous eruption (RIME) has evolved over time. It was previously described as Mycoplasma pneumoniae‐induced rash and mucositis (MIRM), and before that as a variant of Stevens‐Johnson Syndrome/Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis. Here, we summarize the current understanding of best practices

A Novel In Vitro Host−Pathogen Model for Felis catus and Sporothrix Zoonotic Species Investigation

open access: yesJournal of Basic Microbiology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Hyperendemic zoonotic sporotrichosis, attributed to Sporothrix brasiliensis, presents a significant public health challenge in Brazil. Cats exhibit severe symptoms and high fungal loads, though their susceptibility is unclear. Sporothrix schenckii can also cause feline disease, primarily seen in Asia.

Identification of miRNA Biomarkers Associated With Staphylococcal Musculoskeletal Infections

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Musculoskeletal infections (MSKIs) pose significant challenges in orthopedic surgery. These infections are often caused by Staphylococcus aureus and S. epidermidis. Early diagnosis is crucial, as it allows prompt treatment before the infection becomes chronic and more difficult to manage.
