Streptococcus pneumoniae Endocarditis
Southern Medical Journal, 1987We have reported a case of Streptococcus pneumoniae endocarditis involving the aortic valve of a 61-year-old alcoholic man. Antibiotic therapy with vancomycin sterilized the blood and valve, but aortic valve replacement was required for progressive congestive heart failure resulting from a ruptured valve leaflet.

Bacteriophages of Streptococcus pneumoniae
Clinical Infectious Diseases, 1981Properties of some of the bacteriophages of Streptococcus pneumoniae are reviewed. Studies with these phages have yielded several interesting observations and results. (1) A simple transfection system that uses DNA of mature pneumococcal phages was developed; results of studies utilizing this system have determined the intracellular events that ...

Scleritis and Streptococcus pneumoniae
Cornea, 1991We retrospectively review our experience with four patients with Streptococcus pneumoniae scleritis. Two of the patients had been exposed to beta irradiation after pterygium removal 4 and 13 years previously. One patient had a 3-year history of chronic anterior nodular scleritis, and one patient had severe rheumatoid arthritis.

Necrotizing pneumonia due to Streptococcus pneumoniae
Annales de biologie clinique, 2015We present a patient with a necrotizing pneumonia due to Streptococcus pneumoniae. This complication often affects children and is relatively rare and unrecognized in adults. Its diagnosis is often difficult on chest-X-ray and need a chest computed tomography. No risk factors predisposing to necrosis are described in literature and its mortality is not

Epidemiology of Streptococcus pneumoniae
Médecine et Maladies Infectieuses, 2012The epidemiology of S. pneumoniae invasive infections in France, over the last few years, was modified by two public health measures. A nationwide campaign for the rationalization of antibiotic prescription was implemented in 2001 and vaccination of young children with the pneumococcal 7-valent conjugate vaccine in 2003.

Streptococcus pneumoniae and Autoimmunity
The genus Streptococcus includes 49 species, 35 of which have been identified as a cause of infections in humans. Species of Streptococcus are divided into groups based on the antigenic structure of the cell wall alongside polysaccharides, which is known as the Lancefield antigen classification.Alghory, Amal +5 more

Infectious Diseases in Clinical Practice, 2007
Abstract Genetic analyses of Streptococcus pneumoniae clinical isolates causing invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) have revealed within the "susceptible population" a significant proportion of strains harboring a single, principally parC mutation within the quinolone-resistance determining region.

Pneumonia due to resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae.
Schweizerische medizinische Wochenschrift, 2000In the past 10 to 20 years the pneumococcus, the most common pathogen of community-acquired pneumonia, has developed resistance to most antibiotics used for its treatment. Classes with important resistance problems include the beta-lactams, the macrolides and lincosamides, trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, and the tetracyclines.
