Streptozocin-induced diabetes mellitus in the pregnant ewe

American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1991
To evaluate the effects of streptozocin on maternal pancreatic beta-cell function, we administered the agent to 14 pregnant ewes at 85 to 90 days' gestation on two occasions, 4 days apart. Intravenous glucose tolerance tests were performed before the initial administration, before the second dose, and 4 weeks after the final dose of streptozocin. There

Definition of Streptozocin Toxicity for Primary Lymphoidal Tissues

Diabetes, 1986
Hyperglycemia was induced in BALB/c mice with either streptozocin or alloxan to evaluate the effects of these drugs on primary lymphoidal tissues. Streptozocin but not alloxan 1) briefly inhibited in situ DNA synthesis in bone marrow and thymus, 2) elicited a transient selective depletion of circulating lymphocytes, and 3) elicited a transient ...

Effect of streptozocin on gastrin release.

Scandinavian journal of gastroenterology. Supplement, 1976
As streptozocin has a toxic effect on gastrin producing cells in some patients with gastrinomas, the action of the drug upon normal gastrin release was evaluated in patients with carcinoid tumours (n=6) and malignant insulinomas (n=2). No acute effects were recorded in 22 instances where gastrin levels were followed during the first 24 hours after ...

Effect of age and streptozocin concentration on the induction by streptozocin of hyperglycaemia in fasting rats.

Biochemistry and molecular biology international, 1994
The effect of age and streptozocin concentration on the induction by streptozocin of hyperglycaemia in fasting rats is investigated. The data show that there is a dose dependent effect of streptozocin on the hyperglycaemia induced by streptozocin, and 60 mg/kg streptozocin is significantly more effective than 20 or 40 mg/kg streptozocin in inducing ...
