Constitutive modeling of metastable austenitic stainless steel [PDF]
A stress-update algorithm is developed for austenitic metastable steels which undergo phase evolution during deformation. The material initially comprises only the soft and ductile austenite phase which due to the phenomenon of mechanically induced ...

Finite element simulations of microstructure evolution in stress-induced martensitic transformations
Microstructure evolution in single crystal and polycrystal shape memory alloys under uniaxial tension and compression is investigated using the finite element method. To determine stress-strain diagrams and evolution of martensitic microstructure during external loading, a micromechanics based thermo-mechanical material model is used.

Stress-Induced Phase Transformations in Shape-Memory Polycrystals [PDF]
Shape-memory alloys undergo a solid-to-solid phase transformation involving a change of crystal structure. We examine model problems in the scalar setting motivated by the situation when this transformation is induced by the application of stress in a ...

Releasing systems for aerospace industry based upon shape memory alloys: Characterization of materials for actuators [PDF]
Releasing and deployment maneuvers carried out during space satellites launching are usually performed by utilizing pyrotechnics loads. However, it is considered convenient to replace this technique by others not requiring explosives (Non Explosive ...

Understanding the interaction between a steel microstructure and hydrogen [PDF]
The present work provides an overview of the work on the interaction between hydrogen (H) and the steel’s microstructure. Different techniques are used to evaluate the H-induced damage phenomena. The impact of H charging on multiphase high-strength
