Stepwise Transformation of Stress Induced Martensite in Ni-Ti Alloy [PDF]

open access: yesESOMAT 1989 - Ist European Symposium on Martensitic Transformations in Science and Technology, 1989
Superelasticity of N1T1 alloy is connected closely with stress induced phase transformation. Generally, stress-strain (6 2 ) curves are used to describe the mechanical behaviour. It is usefull to clearity the nature of the transformation at variant deformation stages corresponding to o-ecurve.

A micromechanics inspired constitutive model for shape-memory alloys: the one-dimensional case [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
This paper presents a constitutive model for shape-memory alloys that builds on ideas generated from recent micromechanical studies of the underlying microstructure. The presentation here is in one dimension.

Characterization of Nitinol Produced by Laser Powder Bed Fusion for Mechanical Metamaterial Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 28, Issue 11, 3 June 2026.
Stabilization of L‐PBF Ni50.7Ti49.3 under low‐cycle loading was investigated. Recoverable strain after cycling was dependent on the amount of applied load. Recovery ratio was 53.4% and 35.1% at intermediate and high load, respectively. The maximum total strain reached 10.3% at a high load of 1200 MPa.

Thermodynamic Pathways of Nonequilibrium Solidification in Wire‐Arc Additive Manufacturing Fe‐Based Multicomponent Alloy Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Geometry‐driven thermal behavior in wire‐arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) influences microstructural evolution during nonequilibrium solidification of a chemically complex Fe–Cr–Nb–W–Mo–C nanocomposite system. By comparing different deposits configurations, distinct entropy–cooling rate correlations, segregation, and carbide evolution are revealed ...

The effect of thermomechanical treatment on the shape memory in heterophase Ni50,2Ti37,3Hf12,5 alloys [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
In this work the high-temperature shape memory effect was investigated in Ni50,2Ti37,3Hf12,5 alloys aged in austenite at 773 K 3h with/without an additional holding in the martensitic state under stress.

Mn vaporization control and stress-induced martensite transformation in high-manganese steel welds under different laser keyhole conditions

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
Vaporization modeling of high-Mn steel during laser welding, along with the effects of Mn vaporization on the tensile properties at room and cryogenic temperatures, were investigated for various laser defocusing (LD) conditions. The LD10 exhibited a full

Karl Popper and the Mechanisms of Hydrogen Embrittlement

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Representation of the beginning of loss of ductility rather than embrittlement. Small concentrations of hydrogen in a diffusible form within iron are well‐established to harm the mechanical integrity of steels. There are theories that attempt to explain the pernicious role of hydrogen.
