Effect of stress-relief annealing on the inverse swift effect in steel and iron
Scripta Metallurgica et Materialia, 1995The Swift effect (1) refers to the length changes that take place in metal bars and hollow tubes during torsional deformation to large strains. The inverse Swift effect reverse to the twisting that accompanies axial elongation when pretwisted samples are loaded in free extension. In this work, free end tensile tests were performed on plain carbon steel

Season-cracking in brass is classically stated to be the first practical occurrence of stress corrosion cracking.1 Further-more, the degree of stress corrosion susceptibility of copper-base alloys varies widely from, for example, the highly susceptible 70-30 brass to the very resistant copper-nickels.

The effects of stress-relief annealing on the distribution of residual stress and on the microstructure of TA15 (Ti-6.5Al-2Zr-1Mo-1V) alloy joints by electron beam welding (EBW) were investigated. The results indicated that the microstructure of welded joint presented a transitional change, i.e.

A series of controlled experiments was performed to investigate the effect of various stress-relief annealing treatments on magnetic permeability and tendency to aging of grain-oriented electrical steel strips M5, 0.30 mm. The best quality is produced by stress-relief annealing in a continuous roller type furnace.

Stress-relief annealing (SR treatment) is often applied to relieve welding residual stresses in the fabrication process of pressure vessels, etc. This study aims at development of an efficient method as simple as hand calculation to estimate reduction of residual stresses of a very thick welded joint by SR treatment.

The effect of the heating rate used during stress relief annealing of amorphous alloy toroids on the final soft magnetic properties has been investigated by comparing three different annealing techniques. Batch furnace annealing of a completely formed toroid provides the slowest heating rate and the poorest properties.
