TisIBP8, a fungal‐derived hyperactive ice‐binding protein, helps Caenorhabditis elegans survive dehydration. It localizes near cell membranes, reduces cell damage, and helps maintain membrane structure during drying. These results suggest that ice‐binding proteins can protect cells from dehydration stress as well as freezing stress.

On state-space elastostatics within a plane stress sectorial domain: the wedge and the curved beam [PDF]
The plane stress sectorial domain is analysed according to a state-space formulation of the linear theory of elasticity. When loading is applied to the straight radial edges (flanks), with the circular arcs free of traction, one has the curved beam; when

STRESS-STRAIN STATE OF AN ANNULAR PLATE
An axisymmetric plane stress state of a compressible, ideally elastic-plastic body is considered. The material is assumed to exhibit both elastic and plastic behavior under loading. The analysis focuses on the mechanical response of the body under these conditions.

Molecular characterization of covRS mutations in M1UK Streptococcus pyogenes
Group A Streptococcus (GAS) acquires covRS mutations driving a hypervirulent bacterial state, frequently associated with invasive disease‐like necrotizing fasciitis. We demonstrate that the newly emerged M1UK GAS lineage can also acquire these mutations.

Assessment of residual stress using thermoelastic stress analysis [PDF]
The work described in this thesis considers the application of thermoelastic stress analysis (TSA) to theassessment of residual stresses in metallic materials. Residual stresses exist within almost all engineeringcomponents and structures.

How phagocytic cells kill bacteria: Lessons from a professional killer
How phagocytic cells ingest and kill bacteria has been studied for more than a century, but many questions remain unanswered. The study of the amoeba Dictyostelium discoideum brings new answers, and new questions. Professional phagocytic cells such as neutrophils and macrophages, as well as free‐living soil amoebae like Dictyostelium discoideum, employ

Finite element analysis of localised rolling to reduce residual stress and distortion [PDF]
Fusion welding processes cause residual stress due to the uneven heat distribution produced by the moving welding torch. These residual stresses are characterised by a large tensile component in the welding direction.
