Acute stress cardiomyopathy

Current Heart Failure Reports, 2008
A unique syndrome of heart failure and transient left ventricular systolic dysfunction precipitated by acute emotional or physical stress has recently emerged in the medical literature. The syndrome is referred to by several names, including stress cardiomyopathy, takotsubo cardiomyopathy, left ventricular apical ballooning syndrome, and broken heart ...

Understanding stress cardiomyopathy

Intensive Care Medicine, 2016
A 76-year-old woman loses a close friend. Several hours later, she has chest pain, diaphoresis, and shortness of breath. She presents to the emergency department, where an ECG shows deep T wave inversion across the precordium. Cardiac troponin is elevated. This presentation is classic for myocardial ischemia and for stress cardiomyopathy.

Cardiomyopathies and oxidative stress

Medical Hypotheses, 1996
Cardiomyopathies are the group of diseases affecting the cardiac muscle. Although they have never been related to oxidative stress diseases, an analysis of the causes of these pathologies reveals the presence of a pro-oxidative agent or that the intracardiocytic balance between oxidation and antioxidation has been broken. In support of this hypothesis,

Stress Cardiomyopathy

2021
Stress cardiomyopathy (SC) or stress-induced cardiomyopathy or Takotsubo syndrome or broken heart syndrome is an acute and usually reversible heart failure syndrome. The term Takotsubo syndrome (TTS) was first introduced when Sato et al. published their report on five cases in a 1990 Japanese medical textbook. The first case of TTS was recorded in 1983

Coughing‐induced stress cardiomyopathy

Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, 2010
AbstractStress cardiomyopathy is described as acute myocardial infarction provoked by a stressful event with evidence of a significant focal wall motion but with little or no significant coronary artery disease. In this case report, a particularly bad bout of coughing resulted in chest pressure, troponin release, and evidence of antero‐apical ...

Stress-Induced Cardiomyopathy

Current Cardiovascular Imaging Reports, 2011
Stress-induced cardiomyopathy (SIC) is an increasingly recognized disease entity and is accepted as a unique form of reversible cardiomyopathy. Typical apical ballooning precipitated by emotional stress with clinical features mimicking acute coronary syndrome and rapid recovery was a hallmark of SIC.

Stress-Induced Cardiomyopathy

2021
The diagnosis and management of ventricular dysfunction is central to the practice of cardio-oncology. Physician-scientists and clinicians strive to compartmentalize ventricular dysfunction into distinct categories as an aid in the understanding of the disease.
