Topological surface states of strained Mercury-Telluride probed by ARPES [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The topological surface states of strained HgTe have been measured using high-resolution ARPES measurements. The dispersion of surface states form a Dirac cone, which origin is close to the top of the \ghh band: the top half of the Dirac cone is inside ...

Isometric bending requires local constraints on free edges

open access: yes, 2019
While the shape equations describing the equilibrium of an unstretchable thin sheet that is free to bend are known, the boundary conditions that supplement these equations on free edges have remained elusive.

Microstructure Evolution of a VMnFeCoNi High‐Entropy Alloy After Synthesis, Swaging, and Annealing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The synthesis and processing (rotary swaging and annealing) of the novel VMnFeCoNi alloy is investigated, alongside the estimation of the grain size effect on hardness. Analysis of a wide grain size range of recrystallized microstructures (12–210 µm) reveals a low annealing twin density.

Design and mechanical properties analysis of a novel CFRP tendons anchorage structure

open access: yesAlexandria Engineering Journal
To address the challenges of larger size, stress concentration at the loading end, and insufficient anchoring performance at the free end of traditional bonding-type anchors for Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) tendons, a novel anchor featuring a ...

3D (Bio) Printing Combined Fiber Fabrication Methods for Tissue Engineering Applications: Possibilities and Limitations

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Biofabrication aims at providing innovative technologies and tools for the fabrication of tissue‐like constructs for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine applications. By integrating multiple biofabrication technologies, such as 3D (bio) printing with fiber fabrication methods, it would be more realistic to reconstruct native tissue's ...

Comment on `Wedges, cones, cosmic strings and their vacuum energy'

open access: yes, 2013
A recent paper (2012 \emph{J. Phys.\ A} \textbf{45} 374018) is extended by investigating the behavior of the regularized quantum scalar stress tensor near the axes of cones and their covering manifold, the Dowker space.

MOFs and COFs in Electronics: Bridging the Gap between Intrinsic Properties and Measured Performance

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Metal‐organic frameworks (MOFs) and covalent organic frameworks (COFs) hold promise for advanced electronics. However, discrepancies in reported electrical conductivities highlight the importance of measurement methodologies. This review explores intrinsic charge transport mechanisms and extrinsic factors influencing performance, and critically ...

Cyclic Loading and Fabric Evolution in Sand: A Constitutive Investigation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
An anisotropic plasticity model is proposed to describe the effect of fabric and fabric evolution on the cyclic behaviour of sand within the framework of anisotropic critical state theory.

Bio‐Orthogonally Crosslinked Supramolecular Polymer Bottlebrush Hydrogels for Long‐Term 3D Cell Culture

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Fibrous benzenetrispeptide (BTP) hydrogels, fabricated via strain‐promoted azide‐alkyne cycloaddition (SPAAC) crosslinking, form robust, bioinert networks. These hydrogels can support 3D cell culture, where cell viability and colony growth depend on the fiber content.

Numerical evidence for the Maldacena conjecture in two-dimensional N=(8,8) super Yang-Mills theory

open access: yes, 2005
The N=(8,8) super Yang-Mills theory in 1+1 dimensions is solved at strong coupling to directly confirm the predictions of supergravity at weak coupling.
