Metabolites control stress granule disassembly
Nature Cell Biology, 2021Cells respond to stimuli by reorganizing their contents into subcellular structures. New research demonstrates that yeast pyruvate kinase Cdc19 interacts with fructose-1,6-bisphosphate to coordinate disassembly of stress granules. These findings reveal how proteins can directly sense the cellular energy state to facilitate adaptive reorganization.

Journal of Psychosomatic Research, 1982
Abstract In keeping with the main theme of this Congress—Life Stress, Social Stress and Disease— I wish to discuss the significance of holistic or psychosomatic self-control in the prevention and treatment of disease, the need of which has become evident through our clinical experiences and studies.

Controlling heat stress - administrative versus physical control
American Industrial Hygiene Association Journal, 1981The collective effectiveness of several heat stress prevention measures has been evaluated. The relative merits of both physical and administrative controls and their interrelationships have been explored. It is concluded that a combination of physical and administrative control is more effective than any single physical or administrative control in ...

Active Control and Its Stress Effects
Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine, 2004The effects of 5-fold injections of normal saline were studied in Wistar rats in two conditioned reflex situations: defense and alimentary. Intact animals developed conditioned pain avoidance reflex in repeated tail-flick test after 60 presentations over 3 days.

Controlled Stress Refractory Metallizations
MRS Proceedings, 2001ABSTRACTRhodium and iridium are highly electrically conductive refractory metals, which can be used as current-carrying thin-film metallizations. Their chemical inertness further enables their application at relatively high temperatures. However, due to the high elastic modulus of such metals, a residual tensile stress of 300 to 400 MPa is measured in ...

Stress-Controlled Strength Distribution
1997Troll (1959) and other authors discuss the resemblance between wood and reinforced concrete. Figure 86 shows the underlying principle. Whereas reinforcing steel and cellulose are characterized by high tensile strength, concrete and lignin resist compression but cannot bear much tension.

IEE Colloquium on `Stress and Mistake-Making in the Operational Workplace', 1995
During the last few years there has been a growing debate about the work and the demands associated with it. This was partly in response to the realisation that there was only a poor correlation between objective standards of living, albeit rising ones and measures of subjective satisfaction and wellbeing.
