Stress Corrosion Cracking of Steel and Aluminum in Sodium Hydroxide: Field Failure and Laboratory Test

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, 2012
Through an investigation of the field failure analysis and laboratory experiment, a study on (stress corrosion cracking) SCC behavior of steel and aluminum was performed. All samples were extracted from known operating conditions from the field failures.

Experimental investigations and design of precast concrete‐filled steel corrugated sheet slender columns with intermediate connection

open access: yesStructural Concrete, EarlyView.
Abstract Concrete‐filled steel corrugated sheet (CFSCS) offers confinement to the core concrete while the outer galvanized corrugated steel sheet (GCSS) offers excellent corrosion resistance. Application of precast multiple CFSCS columns connected through high‐performance concrete (HPC) in constructing a slender column offers ease of construction while

Recycling of Spent Cathode Carbon from Aluminum Electrolysis: Detoxification Approaches, Resource Utilization, and Environmental Perspectives

open access: yesChemElectroChem, Volume 13, Issue 1, January 2026.
This review outlines the recycling of spent cathode carbon from aluminum electrolysis. Detoxification strategies, including molten salt roasting and ultrasonic‐assisted leaching, are depicted as effective approaches for removing hazardous components. The recovered carbon is further directed toward resource utilization, such as in lithium‐ and carbon ...

Investigation on some factors affecting crack formation in high resistance aluminum alloys [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Aluminum alloys having good mechanical properties are Al-Zn-Mg alloys (7xxx) and Al-Cu-Li alloys (Weldalite®). These alloys may be subjected to stress corrosion cracking.

Stress Corrosion Tests for Prestressing Steels—Part 2: Susceptibility of Quenched and Tempered Wires—Influence of Chromium

open access: yesMaterials and Corrosion, Volume 77, Issue 1, Page 36-45, January 2026.
Cr‐alloyed quenched and tempered prestressing steel wires were found to be as highly susceptible as non‐Cr‐alloyed ones. This finding is in contrast to the known literature. A newly developed and reproducible method for assessing susceptibility to hydrogen‐induced stress corrosion cracking was used.

Environmentally assisted stress corrosion cracking behaviour of low alloy steel in SO2-containing NaCl solution

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2022
The environmentally assisted stress corrosion cracking (SCC) behaviours of low alloy E690 steel in SO2-containing NaCl solution are investigated. The result shows that the corrosion on the metal surface becomes serious with the addition of NaHSO3, which ...

Unveiling Effects of Biodiesel and Diesel on Environmental Stress Cracking of PE‐HD

open access: yesPolymer Engineering &Science, Volume 66, Issue 1, Page 548-563, January 2026.
Change of FNCT time to failure depending on initial fuel sorption condition and corresponding LSM images of the respective fracture surface. ABSTRACT The behavior of high‐density polyethylene with respect to resistance against environmental stress cracking (ESC) is usually regarded as an inherent material property being specific for respective types of

Enhancing pipeline integrity: a comprehensive review of deep learning-enabled finite element analysis for stress corrosion cracking prediction

open access: yesEngineering Applications of Computational Fluid Mechanics
Pipelines are crucial for transporting energy sources, yet corrosion especially stress corrosion cracking (SCC) poses a complex and potentially catastrophic form of material degradation. Traditional techniques like finite element analysis (FEA) have been

In-situ electrochemical analytical effect of aging treatment on stress corrosion behavior of Al–Zn–Mg–Cu aluminum alloy

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2023
The stress corrosion cracking (SCC) behavior of Al–Zn–Mg–Cu alloys in different aging treatment states was dynamically studied by slow strain rate tensile (SSRT) combining in-situ electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS).
