The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Fatigue and Stress Distribution

open access: yesjournal of the Japan Society for Testing Materials, 1953
This investigation was performed to clarify the diagram of endurance limit of notched specimens under repeated torsion. The materials used were of two kinds of carbon steels, and specimens had V-grooves of two or three kinds of sharpness. Results obtained are as follows:(1) In this experiments the authors defined the fatigue limit as a maximum reversed ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Evaluación no lineal de dos postes diferentes Nonlinear evaluation of two different posts

Verification of the bursting and spalling formulas in the FIB model code by finite element analyses of anchorage zones of pretensioned girders [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
In order to predict the stress and possible crack distribution in the anchorage zones of pretensioned girders several models have been developed as can be found in the fib Model Code, the ASHTOO code or Eurocode 2.

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Finite element analysis of zygomatic implant positioning protocols with conventional implant configurations

open access: yesBiotechnology & Biotechnological Equipment
The aim of finite element analysis (FEA) study was to compare two zygomatic implant (ZI) techniques in combination with conventional implants. A FEA model was constituted based on computed tomography data of a patient.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Asperity characteristics of the Olami-Feder-Christensen model of earthquakes

open access: yes, 2010
Properties of the Olami-Feder-Christensen (OFC) model of earthquakes are studied by numerical simulations. The previous study indicated that the model exhibits ``asperity''-like phenomena, {\it i.e.}, the same region ruptures many times near periodically
