Stress distribution in hoppers

Powder Technology, 1978
Abstract The method of characteristics, used in a previous paper [1] to calculate limiting stress distributions is granular material in two-dimensional vertical-sided bins, is extended to similar problems in two-dimensional hoppers. Under normal conditions, a continuous solution arises in the active case and a discontinuous one in the passive case ...

Stress-distribution in the alveolar bone

Journal of Biomechanics, 1968
Abstract A method using photoelastic procedures has been described for the detection of stresses in the alveolar bone. An evaluation of the magnitude of the stress concentrations in a section of a tooth socket is given and the result compared with the known physical properties of the tissues concerned.

The stress distribution in a shear wall

1970
This thesis deals mainly with a prototype test performed on an eight storey shear wall. The dynamic stress distribution, obtained from the prototype wall as the building was being shaken, is compared with results obtained both from a finite element analysis and from a photoelastic model study of the shear wall.

On the Stress Distribution in Laminae

Journal of Reinforced Plastics and Composites, 1988
An elastic analysis of fiber-reinforced composites subjected to normal or/and shear stress in planes normal to the fiber direction is presented. The effect of material properties on the stress distribution is studied and a stress concentration factor valid for all the laminae presently used in industry is obtained.

Stress Distributions in Orthotropic Strips

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1955
Abstract The distribution of stress in orthotropic strips stretched by equal and opposite concentrated loads acting centrally and parallel to the longer sides is discussed. Numerical results are given for oak, the grain being, respectively, perpendicular and parallel to the longer sides of the strip.

Contact Pressure and Stress Distribution

1995
A foundation is the interface between a structural load and the ground. The stress q applied by a structure to a foundation is often assumed to be uniform. The actual pressure then applied by the foundation to the soil is a reaction, called the contact pressure p and its distribution beneath the foundation may be far from uniform.

Settlement and stress distributions

2023
Abstract This chapter describes the basic steps involved in calculating both the undrained and drained settlement of foundations on clay soils. It is demonstrated that the vertical stress changes beneath loaded areas, derived from simple elasticity, can be used with confidence for this purpose.

STRESS DISTRIBUTIONS AND FAULTING

Geological Society of America Bulletin, 1951
Tectonic deformations result from a condition of internal stress caused, in turn, by primary and secondary forces. In the geological literature, a great deal of discussion is based on a direct connection between forces and deformation, completely by-passing the concept of stress.
