It is commonly believed that matrix and natural fractures randomly distribute in carbonate gas reservoirs. In order to increase the effective connected area to the storage space as much as possible, highly deviated wells are widely used for development ...

Gradient elasticity solutions of 2D nano-beams
In this study, the exact analytical solutions of a two-dimensional linear homogeneous isotropic nano-beam in gradient elasticity are studied. Four different types of two-dimensional cantilever beams and related boundary conditions are considered.

FEM-DEM Multiscale Numerical Method for Investigating Stress Gradient Effects in Granular Media
The gravitational field represents the fundamental stress field in geotechnical engineering. Its influence on soil mechanical behavior is manifested not only through variations in stress magnitude but also through stress gradient effects.

EFFECT OF TRANSIENT THERMAL GRADIENT ON STRESSES IN COMPOSITE BRIDGES
Composite steel-concrete bridges experience higher thermally induced stresses than their concrete and steel cousins. These thermal stresses which can result from support restraints, debris accumulating in expansion joints, or from non-uniform thermal gradients, can lead to significant damage in the concrete deck.

Stress Gradient Plasticity: Concept and Applications [PDF]
The effect of a linear applied shear stress gradient on the yield stress of a dislocation pileup is investigated analyti- cally using the continuum theory of dislocation pileups. The solution agrees well with numerical discrete dislocation simulations of

Catastrophic failure mechanism of deep roadways and stress gradient control models
Numerous factors influence the deformation and control of roadway surrounding rock, with stress gradient and pre-tension being two key factors. To investigate the intrinsic relationship between stress gradient and pre-tension and determine the optimal ...
