Effects of scanning path gradient on the residual stress distribution and fatigue life of AA2024-T351 aluminium alloy induced by LSP

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2019
Laser shock peening (LSP) is a superficial treatment process employed to induce beneficial residual stress to retard fatigue crack growth, resist corrosion and wear and enhance the mechanical properties of metals.

Stress gradient effects on the nucleation and propagation of cohesive cracks

open access: yesDiscrete and Continuous Dynamical Systems - Series S, 2016
The paper is devoted to the investigation of the nucleation and propagation of cohesive cracks in 2D elastic structures. It is assumed that the body contains neither a notch nor any corner, which would induce elastic singularities, the elastic stress field is smooth and bounded, but non-uniform.

Effect of Wall Shear Stress Gradient on Cells: Distribution of Deformation and Rotation

open access: yesJournal of Systemics, Cybernetics and Informatics, 2022
The effect of wall shear stress gradient on the deformation and rotation of each cell was investigated in vitro. To make a Couette-type of shear flow, the culture medium fluid was sandwiched with a constant gap between parallel walls: a lower stationary culture disk, and an upper rotating disk.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Mode I crack tip field with strain gradient effects [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
A plane strain mode I crack tip field with strain gradient effects is investigated. A new strain gradient theory is used. An elastic-power law hardening strain gradient material is considered and two hardening laws, i.e.

A multiscale constitutive model for intergranular stress corrosion cracking in type 304 austenitic stainless steel [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Intergranular stress corrosion cracking (IGSCC) is a fracture mechanism in sensitised austenitic stainless steels exposed to critical environments where the intergranular cracks extends along the network of connected susceptible grain boundaries.

Dynamic Compressive Characteristics of Sandstone under Confining Pressure and Radial Gradient Stress with the SHPB Test

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2018
Research on the dynamic compressive characteristics of sandstone under radial gradient stress and confining pressure is conducive to understanding the characteristics of the surrounding rock, especially in an excavation operation for an underground mine ...

Understanding the Plastic Deformation of Gradient Interstitial Free (IF) Steel under Uniaxial Loading Using a Dislocation-Based Multiscale Approach

open access: yesCrystals, 2022
Gradient interstitial free (IF) steels have been shown to exhibit a superior combination of strength and ductility due to their multiscale microstructures.

The Effect of Temperature Gradients on Stress Development during Cryopreservation via Vitrification [PDF]

open access: yesCell Preservation Technology, 2007
This study addresses the problem of thermal stress development in bulky specimens during cryopreservation via vitrification (vitreous means glassy in Latin). While this study is a part of an ongoing effort to associate the developing mechanical stress with the relevant physical properties of the cryopreserved media and to its the thermal history, the ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...
