Development of a field dependent Prandtl-Ishlinskii model for magnetorheological elastomers

open access: yesMaterials & Design, 2019
Magnetorheological elastomers (MREs) offer real-time controllable stiffness and damping properties, and strong hysteresis in the stress-strain responses that depends on magnetic field intensity, strain amplitude and strain rate in a highly nonlinear ...

Understanding the Origin of the Hysteresis of High-Performance Solution Processed Polycrystalline SnO2 Thin-Film Transistors and Applications to Circuits

open access: yesMembranes, 2021
Crystalline tin oxide has been investigated for industrial applications since the 1970s. Recently, the amorphous phase of tin oxide has been used in thin film transistors (TFTs) and has demonstrated high performance.

A Numerical–Experimental Approach for Multi‐Matrix Fiber‐Reinforced Plastics Characterization Using Finite Element Model Updating

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A numerical–experimental framework is developed for characterizing multi‐matrix fiber‐reinforced polymers (MM‐FRPs) combining epoxy and polyurethane matrices. Harmonic bending tests are integrated with finite element model updating (FEMU) to simultaneously identify elastic and viscoelastic material parameters.

Advances in martensitic transformations in Cu-based shape memory alloys achieved by in situ neutron and synchrotron X-ray diffraction methods [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This article deals with the application of several X-ray and neutron diffraction methods to investigate the mechanics of a stress induced martensitic transformation in Cu-based shape memory alloy polycrystals. It puts experimental results obtained by two

Estimation of the Level of Residual Stress in Wires with a Magnetic Method

open access: yesArchives of Metallurgy and Materials, 2015
Residual stress present in wires after drawing process affects their magnetic properties. The paper presents a concept to estimate the level of residual stress on the basis of measurements of hysteresis loops.

Room temperature stress-strain hysteresis in Ti2AlC revisited [PDF]

open access: yesActa Materialia, 2016
Abstract Room temperature cyclic compressive testing of high purity fine (FG) and coarse (CG) grained Ti2AlC were carried out in combination with Resonant Ultrasound Spectroscopy (RUS) tests and post mortem Electron-backscatter Diffraction (EBSD). The results show that the room temperature mechanical response of Ti2AlC can be divided in four stress ...

Thermomechanical Fatigue and Creep–Fatigue Interaction of Inconel 718 Additively Manufactured by Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Thermomechanical fatigue tests of laser beam powder bed fusion (PBF‐LB) Inconel 718 show that the additively manufactured material reaches almost the lifetimes of conventionally‐rolled material under no‐dwell conditions. Introducing dwell times at the maximum temperature markedly reduces the lifetimes due to pronounced grain boundary sliding associated

A five-parameter constitutive model for hysteresis shearing and energy dissipation of rock joints

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mining Science and Technology, 2022
Rock joints exhibit hysteresis shearing behavior and produce energy dissipation under shear cyclic loads, which however cannot be accurately depicted by existing constitutive models. This paper establishes a constitutive model for hysteresis shearing and

Incorporation of Selenium into Sol–Gel‐Derived Bioactive Glass: Influence on Glass Structure, Bioactivity, and its Selective Cytotoxicity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Selenium was incorporated into a sol–gel‐derived bioactive glass to enable sustained therapeutic ion release. The selenium‐containing glass preserved bioactivity while selectively inducing cytotoxicity in osteosarcoma cells and maintaining osteoblastic viability.

The Hysteresis Model of Terfenol-D with Magneto-Stress Coupling

open access: yes, 2011
The output of Terfenol-D is nonlinear and hysteretic under the effect of magnetic field and prestress. The nonlinear constitutive relation between magnetostriction and magnetization with magneto-stress coupling was built in consideration of the ...
