In response to stress, epigenetic modifications occur in the plant genome, which together form a stress memory that can be inherited and increases the efficiency of the plant's defense response to repeated stress events.

Long‐term hippocampal alterations and cognitive impairment in a murine model of surgical sepsis
Using a mouse model of surgical sepsis, we tested long‐term memory and analyzed the transcriptome of single cells isolated from the hippocampus. Survivor mice showed worse memory, loss of certain brain cell subpopulations, and abnormal immune cell activity—suggesting that post‐sepsis brain alterations may be linked to cognitive deficits.

Short-term prospective memory deficits in chronic back pain patients
Objective: Chronic pain, particularly low back pain, is widespread. Although a great deal is known about the impact that this has on quality of life and physical activity, relatively little has been established regarding the more cognitive effects of ...

A torsion test for the study of the large deformation recovery of shape memory polymers [PDF]
A torsion device was designed and built for testing the shape fixity and shape recovery of shape memory polymers at large deformation. A simple thermal chamber was used to regulate the thermal environment during testing and a CCD camera was used for ...

The effects of glucose dose and dual task performance on memory for emotional material. [PDF]
Whilst previous research has shown that glucose administration can boost memory performance, research investigating the effects of glucose on memory for emotional material has produced mixed findings.

ABSTRACT As global populations age, cancer is increasingly becoming a leading cause of morbidity and mortality among older adults, particularly in low‐ and middle‐income countries (LMICs). Despite accounting for the majority of new cancer cases and deaths, older individuals remain underrepresented in cancer research, clinical guidelines, and health ...

Low lifetime stress exposure is associated with reduced stimulus–response memory
Exposure to stress throughout life can cumulatively influence later health, even among young adults. The negative effects of high cumulative stress exposure are well-known, and a shift from episodic to stimulus–response memory has been proposed to ...
