Abstract In this contribution, three experiments are reported concerning the relationship between vowel reduction and perceived stress. The degree of reduction of synthesized vowel stimuli was varied by moving the vowel along the vector from the margin of the formant field to the centre.

Reductive Stress: Neglected Science
Antioxidants & Redox Signaling, 2020Over the past six decades, the concept of "redox" was focused on one arm of the redox spectrum: oxidative stress. In fact, a vast majority of experimental and clinical studies addressing redox mechanisms claimed "oxidative stress" as the culprit for acute or chronic disease conditions.

Reductive stress in pathophysiology
Free Radical Biology and Medicine, 2017Oxidative stress, as defined by Sies more than thirty years ago, has received much attention and has served as an important intellectual tool to understand the pathophysiology of many diseases and also of normal processes like ageing. However, recently the idea that the cells might suffer from reductive rather than oxidative stress and that such ...

International Journal of Mental Health Nursing, 2019
Mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) has been widely used to improve various physical and mental conditions. Studies show the intervention is particularly effective in alleviating depression, anxiety, and stress in working-aged adults.

Reductive Stress and Male Infertility
2022Male infertility research and clinical advances had vast progress in the last few decades. Strong research evidence underpinned the concepts of oxidative stress (OS)-mediated male reproductive disruptions, which bear answers to several cases of idiopathic male infertility.

Stress and stress reduction in common marmosets
Applied Animal Behaviour Science, 2012Abstract Surprisingly few studies have measured cortisol levels in captive primates using samples collected during everyday life to gauge which activities and circumstances might induce or reduce stress. Much of what is behaviourally identifiable as stress may not to be reflected in physiological stress, or vice versa, leading to the often-erroneous ...

The perils of stress reduction
Science, 2015Cancer Biology In today's health-conscious world, it is not unusual for a food item to achieve “superfood” status simply because it contains high levels of “cancer-fighting” antioxidants.

Reductive stress in striated muscle cells
Cellular and Molecular Life Sciences, 2020Reductive stress is defined as a condition of sustained increase in cellular glutathione/glutathione disulfide and NADH/NAD+ ratios. Reductive stress is emerging as an important pathophysiological event in several diseased states, being as detrimental as is oxidative stress. Occurrence of reductive stress has been documented in several cardiomyopathies
