Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Metabolic Responses to Reductive Stress

open access: yesAntioxidants & Redox Signaling, 2020
Significance: Reducing equivalents (NAD(P)H and glutathione [GSH]) are essential for maintaining cellular redox homeostasis and for modulating cellular metabolism. Reductive stress induced by excessive levels of reduced NAD+ (NADH), reduced NADP+ (NADPH), and GSH is as harmful as oxidative stress and is implicated in many pathological processes. Recent

Effect of oxygen plasma on nanomechanical silicon nitride resonators

open access: yes, 2017
Precise control of tensile stress and intrinsic damping is crucial for the optimal design of nanomechanical systems for sensor applications and quantum optomechanics in particular.

Endothelial preconditioning by transient oxidative stress reduces inflammatory responses of cultured endothelial cells to TNF-α [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Brief episodes of ischemia can render an organ resistant to subsequent severe ischemia. This ‘ischemic preconditioning’ is ascribed to various mechanisms, including oxidative stress. We investigated whether preconditioning exists on an endothelial level.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

The more the merrier? Perceived forest biodiversity promotes short‐term mental health and well‐being—A multicentre study

open access: yesPeople and Nature
Forests can foster mental health and well‐being. Yet, the contribution of forest biodiversity remains unclear, and experimental research is needed to unravel pathways of biodiversity–health linkages.

The calm mouse: an animal model of stress reduction

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Psychotraumatology, 2012
Chronic stress is associated with negative health outcomes and is linked with neuroendocrine changes, suppressed immunity, and central nervous system neuropathology.

Mindfulness meditation targets transdiagnostic symptoms implicated in stress-related disorders: Understanding relationships between changes in mindfulness, sleep quality, and physical symptoms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is an 8-week meditation program known to improve anxiety, depression, and psychological well-being. Other health-related effects, such as sleep quality, are less well established, as are the psychological ...
