Stress Relaxation Modelling

Volume 7A: Structures and Dynamics, 2015
Modern gas turbine bolts experience severe operational conditions due to high temperatures and elevated axial stresses, generated by the tightening couple applied during the turbine assembly. In such conditions the relaxation of the initial stress due to viscous phenomena has to be taken into account in order to guarantee the proper operation of the ...

Hydrogel Stress-Relaxation

Journal of Intelligent Material Systems and Structures, 1993
Hydrogels exhibit stress-relaxation when stretched. The decay in tensile stress can be ascribed primarily to strain-induced swelling of the polymer network. This assertion is formalized in a biphasic continuum model of the gel-solvent system. An equation of motion and a linear consti tutive law of the polymer network are solved with boundary and ...

Stress relaxation in muscle

Proceedings of the Royal Society of London. Series B - Biological Sciences, 1957
Tension decay following stretch (stress relaxation) has been studied in resting long-fibred smooth and striated muscles. In both types of muscle, tension decays rapidly at first and then more slowly; the decay curve can be resolved into two exponential components, neither of which is significantly affected by changes in temperature or speed of stretch.

Stress relaxation of elastomers

Dental Materials, 1987
Stress relaxation studies have been carried out on fourteen elastomeric impression materials. A new method of analysis of the data has been presented, and it was concluded that silicones (both addition and condensation-cured materials) and a polyether have superior elastic properties to the polysulphides.

Stress relaxation and inverse stress relaxation in silk fibers

Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 2001
AbstractStress‐relaxation experiments on four varieties of Indian silk fiber show that stress relaxation is significantly greater in non‐Mulberry silks than in the Mulberry silk and that the differences among non‐Mulberry silk fibers are relatively small. All the fibers studied also exhibit inverse stress relaxation.

On Stress Relaxation

physica status solidi (a), 1982
Previous experiments suggest that the sub-structure changes considerably during stress relaxation even in the case when such change is not expected. In this paper similar experiments are made under well controlled conditions on zinc and OFHC copper by using a servohydraulic machine in strain and stroke control.

Delay of twitch relaxation induced by stress and stress relaxation

Journal of Applied Physiology, 1961
The triceps surae of male rats was prepared in situ for isometric and isotonic recording and for stimulation through the cut sciatic nerve. Relaxation in isometric twitches is markedly delayed in muscle showing high resting tension. The time course of the delayed twitch relaxation is similar to that of stress relaxation in quickly stretched resting ...

Stress Relaxation in Cherry Fruit

Biorheology, 1996
Stress relaxation in three varieties of cherries was studied using the penetration test with a cylindrical pin, 4 mm in diameter, having a flat tip. One half of the fruit was modified by partial skinning, since experiments show that skin approximately doubles the apparent modulus of elasticity of the cherries. The skin also obscures a part of the fruit’

Stress, Relaxation States, and Creativity

Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1999
114 participants in four groups practiced 25 minutes of progressive muscle relaxation, yoga stretching, imagery, or a control task. Before and after training, participants took state versions of the Smith Quick Stress Test (which measures Somatic Stress, Negative Affect, and Worry) and the Smith R-State Inventory (which measures relaxation-related ...

Stress relaxation of animal fibres

Biorheology, 1968
The phenomenon of stress relaxation in animal fibres, such as wool, is analysed with reference to proposed structural models for keratin. Rate of stress relaxation in wool is analysed by treating stress relaxation as a unimolecular reaction process. In general, the data fit this system reasonably well. Rate constants are given for the two samples under
