Citrus, one of the most important fruit crops in the world, is sensitive to many environmental stresses often leading to poor tree growth and reductions in fruit yield and quality. Citrus is most often grown in warm climates with well-drained soils, therefore acceptable growth conditions depend upon the quality and quantity of irrigation water and the ...

Microbiome-Mediated Stress Resistance in Plants.
Plants are subjected to diverse biotic and abiotic stresses in life. These can induce changes in transcriptomics and metabolomics, resulting in changes to root and leaf exudates and, in turn, altering the plant-associated microbial community. Emerging evidence demonstrates that changes, especially the increased abundance of commensal microbes following

Role of melatonin in UV-B signaling pathway and UV-B stress resistance in Arabidopsis thaliana.
Plant, Cell and Environment, 2020Melatonin (N-acetyl-5-methoxytryptamine) plays important roles in plant defenses against a variety of biotic and abiotic stresses, including UV-B stress. Molecular mechanisms underlying functions of melatonin in plant UV-B responses are poorly understood.

The psychological syndrome of burnout is of key importance to nurse managers, given that it is a widespread problem, with anywhere from 10–78% of European and American nurses considering themselves to be “burned out.” Reviewing the literature on the consequences of burnout for individual nurses, patients, teams, and healthcare organizations, it is ...

The root of nutrient stress resistance
Nature Reviews Microbiology, 2021This study shows that plant root barrier function and the root microbiota coordinate to maintain plant nutrient homeostasis.

Stress resistance in Staphylococcus aureus
Trends in Microbiology, 1999Staphylococcus aureus is a major human pathogen of increasing importance as a result of the spread of antibiotic resistance. It causes a wide range of diseases and survives outside the host by virtue of its adaptability and resistance to environmental stress.

Resistance to abiotic stresses
1993World food production is limited primarily by environmental stresses. It is very difficult to find ‘stress free’ areas where crops may approach their potential yields. Abiotic environmental factors are considered to be the main source (71%) of yield reductions (Boyer, 1982).

Stress, Mutators, Mutations and Stress Resistance
2009Organisms need genetic mechanisms to rapidly adapt to changing, stressful environments. Having a high mutation frequency would have a drag on a population due to the deleterious nature of mutations, but having a sub-population with high mutation rate due to the presence of mutator genes seems to be nature’s solution.

Physiology of Stress Resistance
1995The terms stress and stress resistance are used in the same way for plants as for man and other animals. Stress (= State of tension) signifies the effects of a “load” on the organism, caused by the influences of external factors (stress factors) which lead to an impairment or reduction in metabolism or development.
