Stress sensitization following a disaster: a prospective study

Psychological Medicine, 2011
BackgroundAccording to the stress sensitization hypothesis, prior exposure to extreme stressors may lead to increased responsiveness to subsequent stressors. It is unclear whether disaster exposure is associated with stress sensitization and, if so, whether this effect is lasting or temporary. This study aimed to investigate the occurrence and duration

Assessment of sensitivity to interpersonal stress in stutterers

Journal of Communication Disorders, 1992
The Willoughby Personality Schedule-R was administered to adult male Yugoslav stutterers who were not yet in treatment. Internal consistency of the WPS-R was assessed by computing item-scale score correlations. Twenty-two of 25 items were significantly correlated with WPS-R total score.

Quantitative study on the stress sensitivity of pores in tight sandstone reservoirs of Ordos basin using NMR technique

Journal of Petroleum Science and Engineering, 2019
For tight sandstone reservoirs, the pore structure is sensitive to the stress variations during the production process. The alternation of pore structure influences the petrophysical properties and therefore the dynamic flow of tight sandstone reservoirs.

Impacts of permeability stress sensitivity and aqueous phase trapping on the tight sandstone gas well productivity - A case study of the Daniudi gas field

Journal of Petroleum Science and Engineering, 2019
Permeability stress sensitivity and aqueous phase trapping have significant effects on the gas well production. An experimental study was conducted to investigate the individual and the combined impacts of the increasing effective stress (i.e ...

Stress sensitive element

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2009
A stress sensitive element includes a vibrating arm having an electrode, a beam portion integrated with the vibrating arm at both ends of the vibration arm, and a connecting portion interposed between the beam portion and the vibrating arm. The element is placed by providing a fixing portion to one of the connecting portion and the beam portion, and an

The stress sensitization hypothesis: Understanding the course of bipolar disorder

Journal of Affective Disorders, 2006
The influence of psychosocial stress on the course of bipolar disorder has been increasingly recognized. The authors tested hypotheses about both stress and early adversity "sensitization" on the course of bipolar disorder over a one-year period. The participants were 58 adults (29 male and 29 female) with a diagnosis of bipolar I disorder.

On the Structure Sensitivity of the Ultimate Tensile Stress

Physica Status Solidi (a), 1972
With the assumption that the ultimate stress σut at the tensile test with constant rate corresponds to the maximum in the curve load P–strain ϵ from the equation dP/dϵ = 0 and from the model developed by Hart [1] for the homogeneous deformation the condition was deduced for attaining (m is the strain rate sensitivity index, E is the true strain).

Posttraumatic stress disorder: A sensitization reaction

Integrative Physiological and Behavioral Science, 1997
This article discusses past research bearing on the question of the etiology of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). It argues that PTSD can be adequately accounted for by a process of emotional sensitization and that this is a more parsimonious explanation than the two-factor learning theory of Mowrer, now postulated by several writers. In brief, the

On the mean stress sensitivity of cast aluminium considering imperfections

Materials Science & Engineering: A, 2019
The mean stress sensitivity of an imperfective and a near-defect free aluminium cast alloy is analysed in this work. Thereby, metallographical, quasi-static, high cycle fatigue and crack propagation investigations are conducted.
