Zero-Stress States of Arteries
Journal of Biomechanical Engineering, 1988The no-load configuration of a living organ is, in general, not the zero-stress state. The difference can be revealed by cutting up an unloaded organ to such an extent that the stress becomes zero in the tissue everywhere. For the aorta, it is shown that the configuration of the zero-stress state differs considerably from being a cylindrical tube.

Uniform Stress State in Bone Structure With Residual Stress
Journal of Biomechanical Engineering, 1998Residual stress and strain in living tissues have been investigated from the viewpoint of mechanical optimality maintained by adaptive remodeling. In this study, the residual stresses in the cortical-cancellous bone complex of bovine coccygeal vertebrae were examined.

The essential objective of structural analysis is the calculation of stresses and deformations of bodies. As shown in Fig. 3.1 we make a cut through the body, which is in equilibrium under external loads in the form of volume forces f i, surface tractions p i and concentrated forces F k.

Short Stress State Questionnaire
European Journal of Psychological Assessment, 2015Conscious appraisals of stress, or stress states, are an important aspect of human performance. This article presents evidence supporting the validity and measurement characteristics of a short multidimensional self-report measure of stress state, the Short Stress State Questionnaire (SSSQ; Helton, 2004 ).

The methods and techniques of elasticity based on the assumption of plane stress or strain continue to play a significant role in the solution of many problems of practical importance. The reason for this lies in the complexity of the three-dimensional boundary value problems of elasticity and the resulting lack of a general methodology of integrating ...

Stress, support, psychological states and sleep
Social Science & Medicine, 1991A stress-support model incorporating indicators of life events, social support and SCL-90 measures of psychological distress was hypothesized to affect both reported and objective (somnographic) sleep. To determine the effects of these antecedents on sleep among 69 mid-life women, two models were tested, using both partial correlations and path ...

This chapter discusses the role of stress and anxiety in human life and the human need to belong to groups. It connects these two things to the role of the state in creating co-citizenship as a form of social belonging. It argues, as well, that the state is a fetish.

Stress State Analysis of Radial Stress Superposed Bending
International Journal of Precision Engineering and Manufacturing, 2019Radial stress superposed bending is a sheet metal bending process, which superposes predetermined radial stresses. Stress superposition is mandatory to enable the reduction of the triaxiality in bending, resulting in delayed damage evolution and an improved product performance.

Force is one of the key notions in mechanics. Forces are interactions between bodies. According to laws of mechanics, presented in the subsequent chapters, action of forces is directly related to motion and deformation of bodies.
