Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Shear-stress controlled dynamics of nematic complex fluids
Based on a mesoscopic theory we investigate the non-equilibrium dynamics of a sheared nematic liquid, with the control parameter being the shear stress $\sigma_{\mathrm{xy}}$ (rather than the usual shear rate, $\dot\gamma$). To this end we supplement the

Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Orexin, stress, and anxiety/panic states [PDF]
A panic response is an adaptive response to deal with an imminent threat and consists of an integrated pattern of behavioral (aggression, fleeing, or freezing) and increased cardiorespiratory and endocrine responses that are highly conserved across vertebrate species.

Thermal divergences on the event horizons of two-dimensional black holes
The expectation value of the stress-energy tensor $\langleT_{\mu\nu}\rangle$ of a free conformally invariant scalar field is computed in a general static two-dimensional black hole spacetime when the field is in either a zero temperature vacuum state or ...

Changing Time History in Moving Boundary Problems [PDF]
A class of diffusion-stress equations modeling transport of solvent in glassy polymers is considered. The problem is formulated as a one-phase Stefan problem.

Hematopoietic (stem) cells—The elixir of life?
The aging of HSCs (hematopoietic stem cells) and the blood system leads to the decline of other organs. Rejuvenating aged HSCs improves the function of the blood system, slowing the aging of the heart, kidney, brain, and liver, and the occurrence of age‐related diseases.

Comparative transcriptomic analysis reveals genetic divergence and domestication genes in Diospyros
Background Persimmon (Diospyros kaki) is the most economically cultivated species belonging to the genus Diospyros. However, little is known about the interspecific diversity and mechanism of domestication, partly due to the lack of genomic information ...

Characterization Of Thermal Stresses And Plasticity In Through-Silicon Via Structures For Three-Dimensional Integration [PDF]
Through-silicon via (TSV) is a critical element connecting stacked dies in three-dimensional (3D) integration. The mismatch of thermal expansion coefficients between the Cu via and Si can generate significant stresses in the TSV structure to cause ...
