Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

What are the relations among stress perception, health perception and activity participation in school-aged children? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This correlational study examined possible relations among children’s activity patterns, perceived stress, and perceived health. A variety of self-report questionnaires were administered to a sample of 33 school age children. The Pediatric Activity Sort (

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Stress-testing of the throat of a rocket's nozzle [PDF]

open access: yes, 1969
Test motor in which high initial pressure can be reduced suddenly provides a method of testing stress effects in the throat of a rockets nozzle. Motors operating pressure is increased to aggravate tensile stresses in a submerged throat.

Potential therapeutic targeting of BKCa channels in glioblastoma treatment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review summarizes current insights into the role of BKCa and mitoBKCa channels in glioblastoma biology, their potential classification as oncochannels, and the emerging pharmacological strategies targeting these channels, emphasizing the translational challenges in developing BKCa‐directed therapies for glioblastoma treatment.

Stress Testing of Banking Systems (in English) [PDF]

open access: yes
In response to the increased financial instability of many countries in the 1990s, policy makers sought a better understanding of the vulnerabilities of financial systems and of measures that could help prevent financial crises.

Torsion system for creep testing with multiple stress reversals [PDF]

open access: yes, 1969
Torsion system proves exploratory data on accelerated creep due to multiple stress reversals. Torsional testing of tubular specimens is best suited for reversed stress creep tests since large strains are obtainable while maintaining specimen ...

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.
