Effects of Add‐On Icosapent Ethyl With Standard Treatment on Functional Outcomes and Inflammatory Biomarkers in Acute Ischemic Stroke: A Blinded Randomized Controlled Trial

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Ischemic stroke, a major cause of mortality and long‐term disability, results from the abrupt cessation of cerebral blood flow due to vascular occlusion or rupture. Icosapent Ethyl (EPA‐EE), approved for hypertriglyceridemia, has anti‐inflammatory and antithrombotic properties that may lessen ischemic damage.

Re‐Purposing Sapropterin (Kuvan) for ACTA2‐Related Multisystemic Smooth Muscle Dysfunction Syndrome: A Translational Mechanistic and First‐In‐Human Therapeutic Report

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Multisystemic smooth muscle dysfunction syndrome (MSMDS) is an ultra‐rare, ACTA2‐related disorder characterized by severe cerebrovascular disease, aortic aneurysms, and smooth muscle dysfunction. Using molecular dynamics simulations and in silico drug screening, we identified that sapropterin dihydrochloride (Kuvan) is a candidate capable of ...

The Theory of Set Tolerances

open access: yes, 2014
The theory of single upper and lower tolerances for combinatorial minimization problems has been formalized in 2005 for the three types of cost functions sum, product and maximum, and since then shown to be rather useful in creating heuristics and exact ...

Modulating TPP riboswitch activity simultaneously enhances crop yield, nutritional quality and stress tolerance

open access: yesNature Communications
While enhancing crop yield remains a critical breeding objective, such efforts often compromise nutritional quality and stress tolerance. The growing global population and increasing environmental stresses make combining stable crop yields with improved ...

Improving component dimensional accuracy in electron beam powder bed fusion by addressing nonlinear deformations with 3D compensation strategies

open access: yesVirtual and Physical Prototyping
Electron beam powder bed fusion (EB-PBF) is effective for producing complex geometrical components with minimal residual stress because of elevated powder bed temperatures; however, it faces challenges in achieving dimensional accuracy due to nonlinear ...

Autoimmune Comorbidities as Modifiers of Phenotypic Heterogeneity in Facioscapulohumeral Dystrophy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Facioscapulohumeral dystrophy type 1 (FSHD1) shows clinical heterogeneity that is only partly explained by D4Z4 repeat unit (RU) size. Although immune and inflammatory mechanisms may contribute to disease variability, the prevalence and clinical impact of autoimmune diseases in FSHD remain unclear.

A Return to Normality: A Descriptive Qualitative Interview Study Exploring the Patient Experience of Gout Flare Resolution

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Although the definition of a gout flare is well established, the state of gout flare resolution has not yet been defined. This study aimed to explore patients’ experiences and perceptions of gout flare resolution. Methods Semistructured interviews were conducted with 24 people with gout, guided by open‐ended questions exploring their ...

Microvascular Damage Is Associated With Carotid Wall Structural Changes in Systemic Sclerosis: A Capillaroscopy and Ultrasound‐Based Observational Study

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is characterized by cardiovascular risk excess not fully explained by traditional factors. Whether the severity of microvascular damage correlates with structural subclinical atherosclerosis remains unclear. We investigated the relationship between nailfold videocapillaroscopy (NVC) abnormalities and carotid ...
