This study examines energy evolution in rock rupture via triaxial direct shear tests, exploring the impact of confining pressure and temperature on fracture surface randomness. A novel energy‐based brittleness index is proposed, validated experimentally, and compared with existing methods for reliability and accuracy.

Influence and evaluation of constraint on fracture toughness in pipeline research [PDF]
Accessing nowadays fossil fuel reserves requires a strain-based design approach. Within such design, the ductile tearing resistance is a key parameter in assessing the defect tolerance. To determine this tearing resistance, full scale (pressurized) tests

Uncoupled material model of ductile fracture with directional plasticity [PDF]
Proposed paper deals with the application of plastic response with directional distortional hardening (DDH) in uncoupled ductile fracture model and comparison of the results with the same ductile fracture model based on isotropic J2 plasticity.

Triaxial vs. Spherical Dark Matter Halo Profiles
When analysing dark matter halos forming in cosmological N-body simulations it is common practice to obtain the density profile utilizing spherical shells. However, it is also known that the systems under investigation are far from spherical symmetry and

Effect of the morphology of the martensite-austenite phase on fracture of the weld heat affected zone in vanadium and niobium microalloyed steels [PDF]
In multipass welding, the intercritically reheated coarse grained heat affected zone demonstrates the worst toughness in welded joint, since it contains a high-carbon martensite with some retained austenite, known as M-A phase, which is brittle and ...
