Triaxial stresses caused by notches
British Journal of Applied Physics, 1954The purpose of the work described was to give metallurgists a guide on means of suppressing plastic deformation in ductile materials, so as to provide a test for brittleness. Stress analyses were made on round bars with circumferential notches by the photoelastic frozen stress method and mechanical tests on steel test pieces provided additional ...

Thermal Residual Stresses and Triaxiality Measures
PAMM, 2010AbstractHigh performance ceramics have found their way into many highly challenging engineering tasks. For example silicon nitride is one of the best choices, if a material for demanding applications like metal forming and cutting is required. Due to the brittle nature of these hard and strong materials it is useful to know about thermal residual ...

Stress Triaxiality in Damage Models
2017High strain rate of loading combined with multiaxial effects are important factors, which we need to consider in understanding the response of structures subjected to hard-body impact, blast, and detonation. Better design and load mitigation schemes against these factors can be developed based on the simulations that should be more reliable in ...

Triaxial Stress-Strain Relationship for Concrete
Journal of the Engineering Mechanics Division, 1977A triaxial constitutive law and a failure criterion for concrete under short-term monotonic loading are derived from the analysis of available experimental data. Their representation through the octahedral normal and shear components of stresses and strains show that the deformational behavior of concrete can be described through simple analytical ...

Stress Conditions in Triaxial Compression
Transactions of the American Society of Civil Engineers, 1960Investigation of stresses and deformations occurring in test specimen, during triaxial compression test, used to determine shearing strength of soil; influence of end restraint on cylindrical test specimens exerted by stiff loading plates with any degree of roughness, is considered by introduction of simplified roughness function; numerical solutions ...

Complete Triaxial Stress-Strain Curves for Concrete
Journal of the Structural Division, 1982A method to predict the ascending and the descending parts of stress-strain curve of concrete subjected to triaxial compressive stresses is presented. The proposed analytical stress-strain relationship depends on the values of the three principal stresses and strains at the ultimate compressive strength.

Stress-Controlled Apparatus for Triaxial Testing
Journal of the Soil Mechanics and Foundations Division, 1967A testing machine in which the rate of true stress can be controlled manually or automatically is described. A pneumatic analog computer continuously calculates the cross section of the test specimen and provides the loading unit with a pressure such that the force applied produces a given axial stress.

Determination of triaxial stresses in bonded joints
International Journal of Adhesion and Adhesives, 1997Abstract Adhesion in a bonded joint is subjected not only to a transverse peel stress and a shear stress, but also to two normal stresses, parallel and perpendicular to the joint, due to the constraint imparted by the adherends. In this paper, analytical solutions have been obtained for these two normal stresses. These solutions have been verified by

Stresses and Strains in Triaxial Specimens
1965Stresses and strains were measured in triaxial specimens of dry sand under slow and dynamic rates of loading. Stress gages employing piezoelectric transducers were found to be sensitive to initial placement conditions, changes in the modulus-of-deformation of the surrounding soil, and lateral deformations of triaxial specimens approaching failure ...

Complete triaxial stress–strain curves for geopolymer
Construction and Building Materials, 2014Abstract Geopolymer is an emerging alternative to Portland cement and is made from fly ash – a waste stream from coal power stations. As a relatively new material, many mechanical properties of geopolymer are still unexplored. In this paper, the stress–strain characteristics of geopolymer under various levels of confining stresses have been studied ...
