On strict monotonicity of the speed for excited random walks in one dimension [PDF]
We give a “direct” coupling proof of strict monotonicity of the speed for 1-dimensional multi-excited random walks with positive speed. This reproves (and extends) a recent result of Peterson without using branching processes.

Monotonicity of eigenvalues of the fractional $p$-Laplacian with singular weights [PDF]
We study a nonlinear, nonlocal eigenvalue problem driven by the fractional $p$-Laplacian with an indefinite, singular weight chosen in an optimal class. We prove the existence of an unbounded sequence of positive variational eigenvalues and alternative

Differentiability of the van der Waals interaction between two atoms [PDF]
In this work we improve upon previous results on the expansion of the interaction energy of two atoms. On the one hand we prove the van der Waals-London's law, assuming that only one of the ground state eigenspaces of the atoms is irreducible in an ...

Existence and multiplicity results for first-order Stieltjes differential equations
In this article, we establish existence and multiplicity results for first-order Stieltjes differential equations satisfying a periodic boundary condition or an initial value condition.

A note on second derivative estimates for Monge-Ampère-type equations
In this article, we revisit previous Pogorelov-type interior and global second derivative estimates of N. S. Trudinger, F. Jiang, and J. Liu for solutions of Monge-Ampère-type partial differential equations.

Fusing Monotonic and One-Class Classification: Elevating SVM with the MC-SVDD Strategy [PDF]
Data mining can be considerably improved with the inclusion of prior domain knowledge; such knowledge reveals complex patterns that might otherwise remain hidden. Among such patterns, monotonic relationships between variables are crucial because of their

Expected utility for probabilistic prospects and the common ratio property [PDF]
We prove the existence of an expected utility function for preferences over probabilistic prospects satisfying Strict Monotonicity, Indifference, the Common Ratio Property, Substitution and Reducibility of Extreme Prospects.

Finite difference approximations for a class of non-local parabolic equations
In this paper we study finite difference procedures for a class of parabolic equations with non-local boundary condition. The semi-implicit and fully implicit backward Euler schemes are studied.

On the strict monotonicity of spectral radii for classes of bounded positive linear operators
Strict monotonicity of the spectral radii of bounded, positive, ordered linear operators is investigated. It is well-known that under reasonable assumptions, the spectral radii of two ordered positive operators enjoy a non-strict inequality.
