The desert ant odometer: a stride integrator that accounts for stride length and walking speed [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Biology, 2007
SUMMARYDesert ants, Cataglyphis, use path integration as a major means of navigation. Path integration requires measurement of two parameters, namely, direction and distance of travel. Directional information is provided by a celestial compass, whereas distance measurement is accomplished by a stride integrator, or pedometer.

Effect of gas collection system on respiratory and stride frequency and stride length [PDF]

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, 1995
Summary The objective of this study was to determine the effects of 2 different gas collection systems on locomotor and ventilatory responses to exercise in a group of 8 Standardbred pacers. Each horse completed the same incremental treadmill exercise test (8, 9, 10 and 11 m/s on a 3° incline) using an open (flow ...

Pedestrian Walking Distance Estimation Based on Smartphone Mode Recognition

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2019
Stride length and walking distance estimation are becoming a key aspect of many applications. One of the methods of enhancing the accuracy of pedestrian dead reckoning is to accurately estimate the stride length of pedestrians.

Instrumented insoles for assessment of gait in patients with vestibular schwannoma

open access: yesWearable Technologies, 2023
Background Imbalance and gait disturbances are common in patients with vestibular schwannoma (VS) and can result in significant morbidity. Current methods for quantitative gait analysis are cumbersome and difficult to implement.

The Effect of Training Stride Length and Stride Frequency on Increasing Sprint Speed

open access: yesMigration Letters, 2023
In running events, especially sprints, there have been many good forms of training in improving sprint performance, such as downhill sprint training, towing, elastic assists, and orders. This training is used to improve stride length and stride frequency quality.

Influence of the biomechanical variables of the gait cycle in running economy. [Influencia de variables biomecánicas del ciclo de paso en la economía de carrera].

open access: yesRevista Internacional de Ciencias del Deporte, 2014
The aim of this study was to investigate the relationships between biomechanical variables and running economy (RE). Eleven recreational (RR) and 14 well-trained runners (WT) completed 4 min stages on a treadmill at different speeds.

Interplay between Stride Velocity, Stride Frequency and Stride Length in Human Gait Transition

open access: yesJournal of Bioanalysis & Biomedicine, 2018
This paper presents the results of studying human gait transition outside the laboratory setting on a treadmill by means of wearable sensor technology. Combined inertial measurement and pressure sensor units embedded in footwear were employed to analyze the movement of the lower limbs during walk-run and run-walk transitions.

Influence of Stride Frequency and Length on Running Mechanics [PDF]

open access: yesSports Health: A Multidisciplinary Approach, 2013
Context: A high number of recreational runners sustain a running-related injury each year. To reduce injury risk, alterations in running form have been suggested.

Relationships between Stride Length, Stride Frequency, Step Length and Velocity at the Start Dash in a Racehorse.

open access: yesJournal of Equine Science, 1994
The present study was undertaken in effort to describe the relationships among each step length, stride length, stride frequency, and velocity during the start dash. Stride frequency reached its peak immediately after the start, while stride length required about 25-30 strides to reach its maximal level.
