Stochastic strike-slip fault as earthquake source model

open access: yesMathematics, 2023
It is known that the source of a tectonic earthquake in the framework of the theory of elasticity and viscoelasticity is considered as a displacement along a certain fault surface. Usually, when describing the source, the geometry of the fault surface is simplified to a flat rectangular area. The displacement vector is assumed to be constant.

Slip distribution of the February 6, 2023 Mw 7.8 and Mw 7.6, Kahramanmaraş, Turkey earthquake sequence in the East Anatolian Fault Zone

open access: yesSeismica, 2023
On February 6, 2023, two large earthquakes occurred near the Turkish town of Kahramanmaraş. The moment magnitude (Mw) 7.8 mainshock ruptured a 310 km-long segment of the left-lateral East Anatolian Fault, propagating through multiple releasing step-overs.

Effects of Low‐Velocity Fault Damage Zones on Long‐Term Earthquake Behaviors on Mature Strike‐Slip Faults

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, 2020
Mature strike‐slip faults are usually surrounded by a narrow zone of damaged rocks characterized by low seismic wave velocities. Observations of earthquakes along such faults indicate that seismicity is highly concentrated within this fault damage zone ...

Numerical Investigation on the Dynamic Response of Fault-Crossing Tunnels under Strike-Slip Fault Creep-Slip and Subsequent Seismic Shaking

open access: yesBuildings, 2023
Tunnels built in geologically active areas are prone to severe damage due to fault dislocation and subsequent earthquakes. Using the Ngong tunnel in the East African Rift Valley as an example, the dynamic response of a fault-crossing tunnel and the ...

Controls of strike-slip fault activities on hydrocarbon accumulation in Tahe Oilfield, Tarim Basin: a case study of TP 39 fault zone

open access: yesShiyou shiyan dizhi, 2022
Strike-slip faults were well-developed in the Tahe Oilfield, Tarim Basin, which had an important control to the accumulation and distribution of hydrocarbon.

Volcano instability induced by strike-slip faulting

open access: yesBulletin of Volcanology, 2000
Analogue sand cone experiments were conducted to study instability generated on volcanic cones by basal strike-slip movement. The results of the analogue models demonstrate that edifice instability may be generated when strike-slip faults underlying a volcano move as a result of tectonic adjustment.

Control of strike-slip faulting on reservoir formation of oil and gas in Nanpu sag

open access: yesPetroleum Exploration and Development, 2008
According to the data of seism, gravity, drilling etc, this article reexamines the Baigezhuang fracture and the Xi'nanzhuang fracture and analyzes the control of structural deformation on the hydrocarbon accumulation in the Nanpu sag. The Baigezhuang and

Using historical aerial images to accurately locate the urban "invisible" active faults: A case study of the Shuiyu fault of the Datong Basin in Shanxi province

open access: yesDizhi lixue xuebao, 2021
Active fault is a major risk source of urban earthquake disaster. Accurately identifying the spatial geometry distribution features of active fault is the basis for urban seismic risk migration.
