When Biology Meets Medicine: A Perspective on Foundation Models

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
Artificial intelligence, and foundation models in particular, are transforming life sciences and medicine. This perspective reviews biological and medical foundation models across scales, highlighting key challenges in data availability, model evaluation, and architectural design.

What if string theory has no de Sitter vacua? [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Modern Physics D, 2018
We present a brief overview of attempts to construct de Sitter vacua in string theory and explain how the results of this 20-year endeavor could point to the fact that string theory harbors no de Sitter vacua at all.

Coding Strings by Pairs of Strings

SIAM Journal on Algebraic Discrete Methods, 1985
Let \(X,Y\subset \{0,1\}^*\). We say Y codes X if every \(x\in X\) can be obtained by applying a short program to some \(y\in Y\). We are interested in sets Y that code X robustly in the sense that even if we delete an arbitrary subset Y'\(\subset Y\) of size k, say, the remaining set of strings \(Y\setminus Y'\) still codes X.
