AN ALGORITHMIC APPROACH TO STRING PHENOMENOLOGY [PDF]

open access: yesModern Physics Letters A, 2010
We review the recent programme undertaken to construct, systematically and algorithmically, large classes of heterotic vacua, as well as the search for the MSSM therein. Specifically, we outline the monad construction of vector bundles over complete intersection Calabi–Yau threefolds, their classification, stability, equivariant cohomology and ...

Phenomenology of fermionic strings

Physical Review D, 1990
We investigate the low-energy phenomenology of string models constructed in the fermionic formulation. Models are constructed in which the gauge group SU(3){times}SU(2){times}U(1){times}... is obtained directly from free world-sheet fermions. We also construct models in which SU(3){times}SU(2){times}U(1){times}... is obtained by symmetry breaking along

Compactification and cosmic string phenomenology

Astronomische Nachrichten, 1990
AbstractA U(1) model of gravitational, Higgs and, gauge fields is analysed. Two phases of the system are considered. In the case with broken symmetry we have the Nielsen‐Olesen configuration. In the symmetric phase we find a space‐time metric S2 × E12. This appears in full analogy to the Freund‐Rubin compactification due to an antisymmeric tensor field.

Overview on string phenomenology

Fortschritte der Physik, 2011
AbstractI provide an introduction and update on the status of string theory models of particle physics, and in particular focus on recent developments flux compactifications and non‐perturbative D‐brane instanton effects.

Topics in cosmic string phenomenology and string cosmology

2020
In this thesis, we explore some implications of cosmic strings and string theory for early time cosmology. Our work comes in two parts. First, we study how cosmic strings produce charged particles which can, by emitting electromagnetic radiation, partially ionize neutral hydrogen during the dark ages. We find that corrections to the ionization fraction

Is string theory phenomenologically viable?

Physics Today, 2006
String theory is entering an era in which its theoretical constructs will be confronted by experimental data. Some cherished ideas just might fail to pass the test.
