An engineering contribution to stroke research

Electronics and Power, 1976
In a recently opened hospital unit on the outskirts of Bristol, some of the problems of the stroke victim are being tackled by a multidisciplinary team that includes electronics engineers. This article describes some of the engineering aspects of the research programme, which makes extensive use of an online digital computer in a widely based ...

Two-Stroke S.I. Engine Competitive to Four-Stroke Engine in Terms of the Exhaust Emission

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1994
A model engine with disintegrated working cycle was built. Its operation is not autonomous; compression of the working air is performed separately outside the engine by the compressed-air line supply. Pre-compressed charge together with the injected fuel is introduced in the combustion chamber.

Scavenging the two-stroke engine

Progress in Energy and Combustion Science, 1990
Abstract The scavenging process is the most important factor controlling the efficiency and performance characteristics of a two-stroke-cycle engine. This article reviews and assesses experimental and theoretical methods, which have been applied during the past three decades, to evaluate the success of the scavenging process.

Two-Stroke Engines

1992
The absence of the separate induction and exhaust strokes in the two-stroke engine is the fundamental difference from four-stroke engines. In two-stroke engines, the gas exchange or scavenging process can have the induction and exhaust processes occurring simultaneously.

Two-stroke/four-stroke multicylinder gasoline engine for downsizing applications

MTZ worldwide, 2009
Following the great public interest aroused by the „2/4-sight“ concept and the successful completion of the fundamental investigations on the testbed, Ricardo is now starting work on the „2/4-car“ project. This project aims to prove the combinability of two- and four-stroke operation in a single internal combustion engine within a demonstrator vehicle.

The Two-stroke Engine

1972
The basic two-stroke cycle was described in Chapter 1 and the operation of this type of engine can now be amplified. Fig. 12.1 shows a typical indicator diagram for a two-stroke, and it can be seen that because the ports open during the stroke the compression and expansion phases are restricted.

Powering a two-stroke RNA engine

Nature Structural & Molecular Biology, 2007
The spliceosome, the ribonucleoprotein complex that removes introns from precursor messenger RNAs, is thought to undergo conformational changes between two alternative states to catalyze the two steps of the splicing reaction, a model that resembles ribosomal transfer RNA decoding.

Unification of engineering return stroke models

Electric Power Systems Research, 2021
Abstract Engineering models burrow various features from transmission line theory and combine them using empirical data to create models that can predict the electromagnetic fields of lightning return strokes in space and time. At present, engineering models are the most successful in predicting the features of lightning electromagnetic fields in ...

Engineered Devices to Support Stroke Rehabilitation

2013 19th International Conference on Control Systems and Computer Science, 2013
Hemiparesis is a frequent outcome of brain damage (e.g., after stroke). There is a diversity of rehabilitation systems which have been designed for restoring the upper or lower limb functions in individuals with disabilities resulting from spinal cord injury (SCI), stroke and muscle dystrophy.

Friction Analysis of a Two Stroke Engine

2015
Internal combustion engines continue to be the vehicles main propulsion system. For all engines, low friction levels are extremely important for the overall efficiency. Components and sub-systems where friction reduction can take place are: crankshaft main bearings, conrod bearings, cam shaft bearings, balancer shafts (if present), auxiliary drives ...
