Pulse Pressure, White Matter Hyperintensities, and Cognition: Mediating Effects Across the Adult Lifespan

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives To investigate whether pulse pressure or mean arterial pressure mediates the relationship between age and white matter hyperintensity load and to examine the mediating effect of white matter hyperintensities on cognition. Methods Demographic information, blood pressure, current medication lists, and Montreal Cognitive Assessment ...

THE RELATION OF PULSE PRESSURE TO STROKE VOLUME

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Physiology-Legacy Content, 1926
In 1904 Erlanger and Hooker1 suggested that the product of the pulse pressure (P. P.) and the pulse rate (P. R.) might be used as an index to the circulation rate (C. R.), or, expressed differently, the pulse pressure as an index to the stroke volume (S.

Fluctuations in cardiac stroke volume during rowing

open access: yesScandinavian Journal of Medicine & Science in Sports, 2020
Preload to the heart may be limited during rowing because both blood pressure and central venous pressure increase when force is applied to the oar. Considering that only the recovery phase of the rowing stroke allows for unhindered venous return, rowing may induce large fluctuations in stroke volume (SV).

A Case‐Based Reasoning Approach to Model Manufacturing Constraints for Impact Extrusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A hybrid modeling approach is presented that combines constraint‐based process modeling and case‐based reasoning. The model formalizes manufacturing constraints and integrates simulation data to model complex manufacturing processes. The approach supports manufacturability analysis during product design through an adaptive modeling environment.

Fator de diferenciação de crescimento 15: um novo biomarcador em pacientes com disfunção diastólica? Factor de diferenciación de crecimiento 15: ¿un nuevo biomarcador en pacientes con disfunción diastólica? Growth-differentiation factor-15: a novel biomarker in patients with diastolic dysfunction?

Lower Ipsilateral Hippocampal Integrity after Ischemic Stroke in Young Adults: A Long-Term Follow-Up Study.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
Background and purposeMemory impairment after stroke is poorly understood as stroke rarely occurs in the hippocampus. Previous studies have observed smaller ipsilateral hippocampal volumes after stroke compared with controls.

A Pilot Study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Background There is an ongoing debate whether stroke patients presenting with minor or moderate symptoms benefit from thrombolysis. Up until now, stroke severity on admission is typically measured with the NIHSS, and subsequently used for treatment ...

From Damage to Functionality: Remanufacturing of Thrust Roller Bearings by Tailored Forming

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Herein, the wear and fatigue behavior of repaired bearing raceways with a new powder alloy is investigated using a FE8 test‐rig and an oscillating tribometer. The tests are compared with industrial manufactured bearings to evaluate the repair quality. The repair can extend the service life of the repaired bearing to that of a new bearing and improves ...
