Fertilization of Epichloƫ typhina stromata by mycophagous slugs

Mycologia, 2014
Epichloƫ typhina, a fungal endophyte of cool season grasses, is heterothallic and an obligate out-crosser. In areas of endemism, its spermatia are moved between stromata of the two opposite mating types through egg-laying activities of Botanophila flies.

Three fungitoxic cyclopentanoid sesquiterpenes from stromata of

Tetrahedron Letters, 1985
New fungitoxic sesquiterpenes, chokol A (1), B (2), and C (3), have been isolated from stromata of Epichloe typhina. Their structures and the relative configuration of 3 have been also elucidated from spectral data.

Agglutination of erythrocyte stromata by myxoviruses in agar gel

Virology, 1967
Abstract A new procedure for studying interaction of viruses with erythrocyte receptors is described by demonstrating that myxoviruses diffusing in agar gel against erythrocyte stromata form distinct reaction lines. Reactions obtained with influenza viruses A, A2, and B as well as with Newcastle disease virus are described and discussed.

Rhizomorphs and perithecial stromata of Podosordaria tulasnei (Xylariaceae)

Mycologist, 2000
After incubation on moist filter paper, Podosordaria tulasnei frequently formed sterile stromata on rabbit pellets collected from the field. These developed extensive submerged rhizomorph systems when pellets were incubated on sand, but further differentiation and sexual reproduction occurred only when pellets bearing such structures were buried in ...

Light microscopy of the virogenic stromata of cytopolyhedroses

Journal of Invertebrate Pathology, 1966
Abstract The cytopolyhedroses of the larvae of many species of Lepidoptera were examined, particularly during early stages of infection. In all cases virogenesis was confined to the midgut cells, usually to the epithelial cells, but in some it also occurred in the goblet cells.

Development of stromata in Claviceps purpurea

Transactions of the British Mycological Society, 1968
Observations on the development of Claviceps purpurea (Fr.) Tul. stromata showed that extension growth occurred only at the stalk apex. The rate of stalk elongation was greater in darkness than in diurnal conditions or continuous light and positive phototropic alignment of the clavae involved enhanced extension growth of hyphae on the shaded side of ...
