Fertilization of Epichloë typhina stromata by mycophagous slugs
Mycologia, 2014Epichloë typhina, a fungal endophyte of cool season grasses, is heterothallic and an obligate out-crosser. In areas of endemism, its spermatia are moved between stromata of the two opposite mating types through egg-laying activities of Botanophila flies.

Three fungitoxic cyclopentanoid sesquiterpenes from stromata of
Tetrahedron Letters, 1985New fungitoxic sesquiterpenes, chokol A (1), B (2), and C (3), have been isolated from stromata of Epichloe typhina. Their structures and the relative configuration of 3 have been also elucidated from spectral data.

Agglutination of erythrocyte stromata by myxoviruses in agar gel
Virology, 1967Abstract A new procedure for studying interaction of viruses with erythrocyte receptors is described by demonstrating that myxoviruses diffusing in agar gel against erythrocyte stromata form distinct reaction lines. Reactions obtained with influenza viruses A, A2, and B as well as with Newcastle disease virus are described and discussed.

In all cases virogenesis was confined to the midgut cells, usually to the epithelial cells, but in some it also occurred in the goblet cells.
