Improving the parameterization of stromatoporoid shapes – a detailed approach to stromatoporoid morphometry

Lethaia, 2005
Eight specimens of Devonian stromatoporoids with well visible latilaminae arrangement exposed on polished slabs were subjected to a detailed morphometric analysis. The studies have revealed that the so far used stromatoporoid parameterization method leaves a broad field of uncertainty concerning the exact definitions of particular parameters.

The stromatoporoid animal

Lethaia, 1975
Stromatoporoids were a subphylum of the Porifera whose soft parts can be reconstructed by comparisons with the living sclerosponges Merlia and Astrosclera. The living tissue was confined to the upper surface and penetrated only short distances into the coenosteum.

The oldest stromatoporoids

International Geology Review, 1967
The Cambrian "stromatoporoids" possess characters both of stromatoporoids and of archaeocyatheans. The similarity with archaeocyatheans is most probably a genuine affinity, that with the stromatoporoids merely convergence. The genera Korovinella and Praeactinostroma should be regarded as members of the order Archaeosynconidae Zhuravleva, 1955. Study of

Stromatoporoids: Classification

Notes for a Short Course: Studies in Geology, 1983
The most influential early classification of the group appeared in H.A. Nicholson's great monograph on the stromatoporoids for the Palaeontographical Society (1886–1892). He believed that the stromatoporoids were similar to the two major groups of living hydrozoans and based his major divisions, the Hydractinoidea and the Milleporoidea, on this ...

Parameterization of stromatoporoid shape

Lethaia, 1978
Kershaw, Stephen & Riding, Robert 1978 07 15: Parameterization of stromatoporoid shape. Lethaia, Vol. 11. pp. 233–242. Oslo. ISSN 0024–1164. Stromatoporoid cross-sectional shape can be considered as a product of the interaction of three morphological variables: the relative proportions of basal, vertical and diagonal dimensions.

Stromatoporoid Growth Rhythms and Rates

Science, 1981
Stromatoporoids are major contributors to framework construction in Paleozoic reefs. The Devonian species Parallellostroma densilaminata (Fagerstrom), P. winchelli (Galloway and Ehlers), and Stictostroma sp.

Modern Cyanobacterial Analogs of Paleozoic Stromatoporoids

Science, 1990
Recent and subfossil calcareous structures resembling cystose and subclathrate Paleozoic stromatoporoids have been discovered in a sea-linked, stratified, alkaline crater lake on Satonda Island, Indonesia. The structures are produced by mats of coccoid cyanobacteria growing along the lakeshore from the water surface down to the O2-H2S interface located

Biogeography of the Devonian stromatoporoids

Geological Society, London, Memoirs, 1990
Abstract Stromatoporoids were a common component of shallow carbonate environments of North America, Eurasia, and Australia during the Devonian. They were least abundant during the Early Devonian. After that time abundance increased, and remained high steadily through the Frasnian.
