Life goes on: Spatial heterogeneity promotes biodiversity in an urbanized coastal marine ecosystem

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology, Volume 30, Issue 4, April 2024.
The rapid rate of coastal urbanization makes nearby marine ecosystems among the most profoundly impacted by pollution, resource exploitation and infrastructure development. Using COI metabarcoding, we found that, despite being near one of the largest megacities in the world, the Pearl River Delta is an area of high biodiversity.

Extended and spatially asynchronous reproductive periodicity in a harvested, warm‐temperate rocky‐reef gastropod (Turbinidae)

open access: yesFisheries Oceanography, Volume 33, Issue 1, January 2024.
Abstract Turban snails are targeted for their high‐quality meat and, consequently, are often subjected to heavy harvesting pressure. Managing recreational and small‐scale fisheries is challenging, partly due to a lack of biological data underpinning certain regulatory measures.

Cytochemical Investigation of the Digestive Gland of Two Strombidae Species (Strombus gigas and Strombus pugilis) in Relation to the Nutrition

open access: yes, 2012
International audienceStrombus gigas and Strombus pugilis are threatened species and aquaculture represents a good alternative solution to the fishing.

An iconography of Ministrombus Dekkers, 2010 (Gastropoda: Neostromboidae: Strombidae) with the description of new species

open access: yesThe Festivus, 2022
This iconography explores the variability and ranges of members of the Ministrombus and introduces three new species bringing the total to six in the genus. Two of these species are alluded to in previous works but were never described. M. athenius is recircumscribed and the type locality is shifted to reflect this change in taxonomic position.

A theoretical composite model for population sex-specific shell size dynamics in Strombidae (Gastropoda, Neostromboidae)

open access: yes, 2021
Modelling sexual dimorphism has important implications for understanding the evolution of size relationships among and within organisms. We present a composite model for the regulation and evolution of sex-specific inter-population shell size in a family

ORGANOGÉNESIS LARVARIA DE Strombus gigas (MESOGASTROPODA: STROMBIDAE) EN EL ARRECIFE ALACRANES DURANTE EL PERIODO MÁXIMO DE SU ÉPOCA REPRODUCTIVA

open access: yesEcosistemas y Recursos Agropecuarios, 2014
Con el fin de describir el desarrollo ontogenético de las larvas de Strombus gigas se recolectaron masas de huevos del medio natural y se cultivaron bajo condiciones de laboratorio durante mayo, junio y julio, correspondientes al máximo de la época ...

[Embrionary development of Strombus pugilis (Mesogastropoda: Strombidae) in the laboratory].

open access: yesRevista de biologia tropical, 2005
Stages from oviposition to veliger hatching are described for Strombus pugilis under laboratory conditions. Two egg masses from Playa Seyba, México, (20 degrees 45' N, 91 degrees 45' W) were used (three sub-samples per mass). Each sub-sample was immersed in a 11 container at 29 +/- 1 degrees C.
