Tidal modulation of the seismic activity related to the 2021 La Palma volcanic eruption. [PDF]
The volcanic eruption at La Palma started on September 19, 2021. The eruption was preceded by a seismic swarm that began on September 11, although anomalous seismicity has been observed on the island since 2017.

Modeling Strombolian eruptions of Karymsky volcano, Kamchatka, Russia [PDF]
A model is proposed to explain temporal patterns of activity in a class of periodically exploding Strombolian-type andesite volcanoes. These patterns include major events (explosions) which occur every 3–30 min and subsequent tremor with a typical period of 1 s.

Transport of ballistic projectiles during the 2015 Aso Strombolian eruptions [PDF]
Abstract Large pyroclasts—often called ballistic projectiles—cause many casualties and serious damage on people and infrastructures. One useful measure of avoiding such disasters is to numerically simulate the ballistic trajectories and forecast where large pyroclasts deposit.

The deep feeding system of Vesuvius involved in recent violent strombolian eruptions [PDF]
Mt. Vesuvius has experienced a period of semipersistent volcanic activity over the last three centuries, producing mainly lava effusions and some mixed effusive‐explosive eruptions of higher magnitude. We present a systematic study on major and volatile elements of melt inclusions trapped in olivine crystals peculiar to lapilli fallout emplaced during ...

Linking eruptive style with pore network geometry in tephritic/basanitic tephra from the 2021 Tajogaite eruption (Canary Islands, Spain). [PDF]
Investigating the textural properties and 3D geometry of the connected pore network in volcanic products provides insight into magma ascent processes, due to their influence on magma permeability, outgassing efficiency and explosivity.

Slow Ascent of Unusually Hot Intermediate Magmas Triggering Strombolian to Sub-Plinian Eruptions
AbstractTo assess whether magma ascent rates control the style of volcanic eruption, we have studied the petrography, geochemistry and size distribution of microlites of plagioclase and pyroxene from historical eruptions from Tongariro, Ruapehu and Ngauruhoe volcanoes located in the southern Taupo Volcanic Zone, New Zealand.

High‐speed imaging of Strombolian eruptions: Gas‐pyroclast dynamics in initial volcanic jets [PDF]
AbstractHigh‐speed imaging of Strombolian explosions brings into view the motion of pyroclasts upon leaving the volcanic vent. The erupted gas‐pyroclast mixtures form jets with well‐defined leading vortex rings that rise at almost constant velocity proportional to the time‐averaged velocity of pyroclasts.

THE 1723 A.D. VIOLENT STROMBOLIAN AND PHREATOMAGMATIC ERUPTION AT IRAZÚ VOLCANO, COSTA RICA

From Passive Degassing to Violent Strombolian Eruption: the Case of the 2008 Eruption of Llaima Volcano, Chile [PDF]
On 1 January 2008 Llaima volcano, a basaltic andesite stratocone in southern Chile, entered a phase of violent Strombolian eruption. Llaima, like many passively degassing systems, has experienced prolonged (decades-long) periods of persistent summit degassing from its open vent.

The bursting behavior of gas slugs: laboratory and analytical insights into Strombolian volcanic eruptions. [PDF]
The aim of this thesis is to study how explosive behavior and geophysical signals in a volcanic conduit are related to the development of overpressure in slug-driven eruptions. A first suite of laboratory experiments of gas slugs ascending in analogue conduits was performed.
