Common processes at unique volcanoes – a volcanological conundrum

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2014
An emerging challenge in modern volcanology is the apparent contradiction between the perception that every volcano is unique, and classification systems based on commonalities among volcano morphology and eruptive style.

From Passive Degassing to Violent Strombolian Eruption: the Case of the 2008 Eruption of Llaima Volcano, Chile [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
On 1 January 2008 Llaima volcano, a basaltic andesite stratocone in southern Chile, entered a phase of violent Strombolian eruption. Llaima, like many passively degassing systems, has experienced prolonged (decades-long) periods of persistent summit degassing from its open vent.

Basaltic Explosive Volcanism in a tuff-dominated Intraplate Setting, Sarmiento Formation (Middle Eocene- lower Miocene), Patagonia Argentina

open access: yesLatin American Journal of Sedimentology and Basin Analysis
The Sarmiento Formation (middle Eocene to early Miocene) represents the distal record of the activity of the Andean volcanic arc in central Patagonia, mainly dominated by accumulation and reworking of fine ash in a low-gradient continental setting ...

La Palma 2021 Eruption (Canary Islands): Measurements and Modelling of Lava Flow Cooling Rates and Applications for Infrastructure Reconstruction and Risk Mitigation

open access: yesGeoHazards
On 19 September 2021, a strombolian volcanic eruption began on the island of La Palma in the Canary Islands. This event resulted in the destruction of 73 km of roads, urban infrastructure, numerous houses, and agricultural crops, affecting approximately ...

Petrologic and numerical modeling study of Strombolian eruption dynamics at Volcán Llaima (Chile)

open access: yes, 2011

Lunar Mare Lava Flow Dynamics and Emplacement: Predictions of Non-Newtonian Flow Dynamics, Syn- and Post-emplacement Cooling and Volatile Release Patterns, and Vertical and Lateral Flow Structure Development

open access: yesThe Planetary Science Journal
We apply basic principles of magma ascent from deep source regions and its eruption into a low-gravity vacuum environment to develop a theoretical treatment of the fluid dynamics and thermodynamics of mare basalt lava flow emplacement and evolution on ...

The bursting behavior of gas slugs: laboratory and analytical insights into Strombolian volcanic eruptions.

open access: yes, 2012
The aim of this thesis is to study how explosive behavior and geophysical signals in a volcanic conduit are related to the development of overpressure in slug-driven eruptions. A first suite of laboratory experiments of gas slugs ascending in analogue conduits was performed.
