Star Formation under a Cosmic Microscope: Highly Magnified z = 11 Galaxy behind the Bullet Cluster

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
We present measurements of stellar population properties of a newly discovered, spectroscopically confirmed, $z=11.1{0}_{-0.26}^{+0.11}$ , gravitationally lensed galaxy, using JWST NIRSpec PRISM spectroscopy and NIRCam imaging.

Study of Free‐Space Optical Quantum Network: Review and Prospectives

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Free from the constraints of fiber connections, free‐space quantum network enables longer and more flexible quantum network connections. This review summarizes and comparatively analyzes free‐space quantum network experiments based on ground stations, satellites, and mobile platforms.

An Opacity-free Test of the Cosmic Distance Duality Relation Using Strongly Lensed Gravitational-wave Signals with Space-based Detector Networks

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
The cosmic distance duality relation (CDDR), expressed as d _L ( z ) = (1 +  z ) ^2 D _A ( z ), is a fundamental relation in modern cosmology. In this work, we apply a method to test the CDDR using simulated strongly lensed gravitational-wave (SLGW ...

Light‑Driven Propulsion of Graphene Aerogels in Microgravity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Ultralight graphene aerogels convert laser light into thrust. Parabolic‐flight experiments directly compare their motion in microgravity and at 1 g, revealing order‐of‐magnitude enhancements in distance, velocity, and transient thrust when weight and friction are removed (∼50 times enhancement).

Strong Gravitational Lensing: Bright Galaxies & Lost Dark-Matter [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the International Astronomical Union, 2007
AbstractGravitational lensing and stellar dynamics provide two complementary methods to probe the smooth and clumpy stellar and dark-matter mass distribution in early-type galaxies, currently already over a range of two orders of magnitude in virial mass, more than ten orders of magnidude in dynamic mass range in each galaxy (i.e.

Quasar Milli-lensing and Cold Dark Matter (TNG50) Subhaloes. I. Image Splitting

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We use numerical mass density profiles from the TNG50 simulation to study the impact of gravitational milli-lensing by dark matter subhaloes on the images of lensed quasars.

Cusp-core problem and strong gravitational lensing

open access: yes, 2009
Cosmological numerical simulations of galaxy formation have led to the cuspy density profile of a pure cold dark matter halo toward the center, which is in sharp contradiction with the observations of the rotation curves of cold dark matter-dominated ...

Modeling the separation of water‐in‐oil emulsions in continuously fed gravity settlers using millifluidic experiments

open access: yesAIChE Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Emulsion separation remains a persistent challenge in chemical and process industries due to the metastable nature of dispersed droplets. In gravity separators, the overall separation rate is governed by the formation of a densely packed zone (DPZ) of deforming and coalescing droplets that mediates between the dispersed and continuous phases ...

Strong Gravitational-wave Lensing Posterior Odds

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Like light, gravitational waves are gravitationally lensed by intervening massive astrophysical objects—such as galaxies, clusters, black holes, and stars—resulting in a variety of potentially observable gravitational-wave lensing signatures.

Finding diamonds in the rough: Targeted Sub-threshold Search for Strongly-lensed Gravitational-wave Events

open access: yes, 2021
Strong gravitational lensing of gravitational waves can produce duplicate signals separated in time with different amplitudes. We consider the case in which strong lensing produces identifiable gravitational-wave events and weaker sub-threshold signals ...
