Synthesizing a ν=2/3 fractional quantum Hall effect edge state from counter-propagating ν=1 and ν=1/3 states

open access: yesNature Communications, 2019
The boundaries of fractional quantum Hall states can host multiple, interacting one-dimensional edge modes, which test our understanding of strongly interacting systems.

The phases of strongly interacting matter in heavy ion collisions

open access: yes, 2005
In ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions the produced high temperature, high energy density state will cross different phases of the strongly interacting matter.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Plastic flow of persistent currents in two dimensional strongly interacting systems

open access: yes, 1998
The local persistent current in two dimensional strongly interacting systems is investigated. As the interaction strength is enhanced the current in the sample undergoes a transition from diffusive to ordered flow.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

An energy-resolved atomic scanning probe

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2018
We propose a method to probe the local density of states (LDOS) of atomic systems that provides both spatial and energy resolution. The method combines atomic and tunneling techniques to supply a simple, yet quantitative and operational, definition of ...

Interacting edge states of fermionic symmetry-protected topological phases in two dimensions

open access: yesSciPost Physics, 2020
Recently, it has been found that there exist symmetry-protected topological phases of fermions, which have no realizations in non-interacting fermionic systems or bosonic models.

Testing universality of Feynman-Tan relation in interacting Bose gases using high-order Bragg spectra

open access: yesLight: Science & Applications, 2023
The Feynman-Tan relation, obtained by combining the Feynman energy relation with the Tan’s two-body contact, can explain the excitation spectra of strongly interacting 39K Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC).

Hyperspherical Treatment of Strongly-Interacting Few-Fermion Systems in One Dimension

open access: yes, 2014
We examine a one-dimensional two-component fermionic system in a trap, assuming that all particles have the same mass and interact through a strong repulsive zero-range force. First we show how a simple system of three strongly interacting particles in a

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...
