Strontium metabolism in the rebuilding of skeletal tissue [PDF]

open access: yes
The relationship between calcium and strontium in bone metabolism is described. Whole body comparisons in the form of balance studies, plasma kinetics, and biochemical bone differences are briefly reviewed. The value of strontium as a qualitative calcium

A Novel CHMP2B Splicing Variant in Atypical Presentation of Familial Frontotemporal Lobar Degeneration

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT C‐truncating variants in the charged multivesicular body protein 2B (CHMP2B) gene are a rare cause of frontotemporal lobar degeneration (FTLD), previously identified only in Denmark, Belgium, and China. We report a novel CHMP2B splice‐site variant (c.35‐1G>A) associated with familial FTLD in Spain. The cases were two monozygotic male twins who

Metabolic Consequences of Rheumatoid Arthritis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) may have metabolic disruption, which can contribute to adverse long‐term outcomes, for multiple reasons. Patients with RA appear to have a higher risk of sarcopenia, type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus, metabolic syndrome, and hypertension. Systemic inflammation in RA can cause a “lipid paradox,” with reduced low‐

Strontium Ranelate Elevates Expression of Heme Oxygenase-1 and Decreases Alveolar Bone Loss in Rats

open access: yeseJournal of Oral Maxillofacial Research, 2018
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of strontium ranelate on ligature-induced periodontitis in rats and assess the putative involvement of heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) pathway in these effects.

Gastrointestinal Perforation as a Safety Concern Among Patients With Rheumatoid Arthritis Receiving JAK Inhibitor Therapy: A Systematic Review and Network Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Gastrointestinal perforation (GIP) is a rare and life‐threatening safety concern associated with JAK inhibitors (JAKi). We aimed to review the evidence regarding the risk of GIP associated with the use of JAKi in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) using a systematic review and network meta‐analysis approach.

Superconductivity at 15.6 K in Calcium-doped Tb_{1-x}Ca_xFeAsO: the structure requirement for achieving superconductivity in the hole-doped 1111 phase

open access: yes, 2009
Superconductivity at about 15.6 K was achieved in Tb_{1-x}Ca_xFeAsO by partially substituting Tb^{3+} with Ca^{2+} in the nominal doping region x = 0.40 \sim 0.50. A detailed investigation was carried out in a typical sample with doping level of x = 0.44.

Retrotransposon Expression Is Upregulated in Adulthood and Suppressed during Regeneration of the Limb in the Axolotl (Ambystoma mexicanum)

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
The axolotl's remarkable regenerative abilities decline with age, the causes may include the numerous repetitive elements within its genome. This study uncovers how Ty3 retrotransposons and coexpression networks involving muscle and immune pathways respond to aging and regeneration, suggesting that transposons respond to physiological shifts and may ...
