Surface Properties of p‐GaN and Formation of Nickel Metal Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
The amount of C, O, and Mg–O bonds on the surface of p‐GaN can be reduced while still maintaining the surface morphology by potassium hydroxide (KOH) wet chemical treatment. Heating this surface with Ni on top in ultra‐high vacuum (UHV) results in a crystalline Ga‐Ni alloy and diffusion of Ga, which creates vacancies close to valence band leading to ...

Emergent Ferromagnetism at LaFeO3/SrTiO3 Interface Arising from a Strain‐Induced Spin‐State Transition

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Strain at the LaFeO3/SrTiO3 interface induces spin‐state disproportionation, creating a checkerboard pattern of low‐ and high‐spin Fe3+ ions. This unusual configuration leads to interfacial ferromagnetism in an otherwise antiferromagnetic insulator. Using electron microscopy, spectroscopy, and density functional theory, this work reveals a new route to
