Beyond Diagnosis: Transdiagnostic Cognitive Subgroups in Mood Disorders Linked to Work‐Related Disability

open access: yesNeuropsychopharmacology Reports, Volume 46, Issue 2, June 2026.
Diagnostic categories alone did not explain differences in subjective social functioning, whereas cognitive clustering identified a lower‐performance subgroup with worse work and total disability. Cognitive heterogeneity may underlie functional impairment across mood disorders.

Socioeconomic Account of Reading Abilities in Learning Chinese as a First Language and English as a Second Language

open access: yesLanguage Learning, Volume 76, Issue 2, Page 425-453, June 2026.
Abstract The study examined the mediation model of socioeconomic status (SES) and executive function (EF) on reading abilities in Chinese (as first language, L1) and English (as second language, L2) in 260 native Cantonese‐speaking students (146 boys) from Hong Kong local primary schools with the mean age at 111.3 months (range = 98–132 months).

Acute Music‐Frequency Exposure Modulates Salivary Stress and Neurotrophic Markers in Young Adults: A Randomized Controlled Trial

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 16, Issue 5, May 2026.
Distinct music frequencies used are as follows: – 528 Hz → BDNF & CREB (learning, memory, and neuroplasticity). – 432 Hz → GRP78 (cellular stress response marker). – Stroop Test → No immediate cognitive difference. Note that a frequency of 528 Hz showed a pattern compatible with enhanced neurotrophic signaling, while a frequency of 432 Hz was linked to

Italian Basic Terms Blu and Azzurro: Semantic Power Assessed in the Stroop Task

open access: yesColor Research &Application, Volume 51, Issue 3, May/June 2026.
A Stroop task revealed an asymmetry of the semantic power of the two basic “Italian blues,” blu “dark blue” and azzurro “light blue.” BLU word, rendered in dark and light blue inks, showed no significant Stroop effects. In contrast, AZZURRO word exhibited strong Stroop interference and facilitation. Higher semantic power of azzurro is argued to reflect

Warming Up Body and Mind: Combined Cognitive and Exercise Priming Improves 1‐Mile Time Trial Performance in Recreational Runners

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Sport Science, Volume 26, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Combined cognitive and physical warmups can improve sport and exercise performance more than standard physical only warmups. The effects of combined warmups on running have yet to be determined. Accordingly, the aim was to compare the effects of combined and standard warmups on 1‐mile time trial performance.

Applications of the Stroop Paradigm in Tinnitus: a Scoping Review

open access: yesBrain and Behavior
Introduction The Stroop paradigm is important for assessing top‐down attentional control. Considering that tinnitus has been linked to cognitive dysfunctions, the present study intends to investigate Stroop's application in the tinnitus population ...

Brain compensatory activation during Stroop task in patients with mild cognitive impairment: a functional near-infrared spectroscopy study

open access: yesFrontiers in Aging Neuroscience
PurposeThis study investigated the disparities in brain activation patterns during the Stroop task among individuals with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and those without any cognitive impairments (healthy controls, HCs) using functional near-infrared ...

Differential Effects in Bimodal Directional Stroop Interference

open access: yes, 2018
The directional Stroop task (e.g., Cannon, 1998) creates interference between a directional word and a directional cue, such as an arrow. This study was conducted to replicate directional Stroop interference using bimodal stimulus pairs and then to ...

Remote‐Based Brain Endurance Training Enhances Bench Press, Preacher Curl, and Jump Squat Performance in Recreational Athletes

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Sport Science, Volume 26, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Supervised laboratory‐based brain endurance training (BET), a form of combined cognitive and exercise training, benefits exercise performance. Given that athletes often train unsupervised, we compared effects of unsupervised remote‐based BET and standard exercise training (ET) on muscular endurance exercise performance.

Dietary Polyphenols in Non‐Communicable Chronic Diseases: Neuro–Enteric Mechanisms, Multi‐Omics Biomarkers and Translational Opportunities

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 5, May 2026.
This illustration highlights how dietary polyphenols from foods like berries, grapes, and green tea travel through the gut, where microbiota transform them into bioactive metabolites. These metabolites pass into the bloodstream, strengthen the gut barrier, and ultimately reach the brain, supporting neuroprotection through antioxidative and anti ...
